2019 Midwest Slavic Association Student Essay Prize Competition Submissions Now Being Accepted

The Midwest Slavic Association, with support from the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), is now accepting submissions for its annual essay prize competition for undergraduate and graduate students. Students can submit a paper on any topic related to Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies to the Midwest Slavic Association for consideration. The best undergraduate paper received will win a one-year membership to ASEEES, and the graduate winner will receive a one-year membership to ASEEES, as well as being considered then for the ASEEES Graduate Student Essay Prize at the national level. The graduate winner of the ASEEES Student Essay Prize at the national level wins travel, lodging, and registration for the Annual ASEEES Convention and membership for the following year. The prize is presented during the awards presentation at the Annual Convention.

Submissions should be emailed to csees@osu.edu by Tuesday, April 30!

CFP: Tutorials for digital tools & methods (King’s College London)

“Language Acts and Worldmaking” project at King’s College London has a CFP open through this Sunday for proposals for writing tutorials on how to use digital tools and methods for the teaching and learning of modern languages, or research in modern language cultures and literatures.

Tutorials are meant to be written during a writing spring (in person in London, or virtually) on July 4-5th, with final submission of tutorials in September. The tutorials will be published in an Open Educational Resource collection in the fall. There’s the possibility of a small bursary (up to £200) to defray travel and accommodations getting to/from the in-person event if you want to attend it rather than the virtual option.

This workshop will bring together instructors to share their practices and materials, as they relate to teaching Polish.  The focus of this workshop will be on standard-based approaches to teaching language, especially alongside ACTFL (American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language, www.actfl.org) proficiency and world-readiness standards.  This workshop will serve as a forum for exchange of the most successful topics, projects, and syllabi from the most recent years of teaching, across participants’ institutions.
