The Graduate School at the University of Texas at Austin has an open position for a communications specialist to support its strategic communication efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with members of communication team and other offices within the Graduate School to execute a variety of campaigns.
  • Write various news stories, press releases and marketing materials to promote Graduate School programs.
  • Draft correspondence—including emails, official remarks and announcements—to campus stakeholders.
  • Assist in coordinating media requests and generating responses to reporters on Graduate School operations.
  • Develop content for the Graduate School’s marketing campaign to recruit top graduate students to the university. 
  • Work with the Graduate School’s recruitment team and graduate programs across campus to develop content for the campaign.
  • Support content strategy and production for the Graduate School’s social media platforms.
  • Assist with coordinating logistics for photography and video production projects.
  • Work with external vendors including graphic designers on print and digital projects.
  • Assist with maintaining Graduate School websites and contributing to an upcoming website redesign project.
  • Work with communications colleagues in the Provost’s and President’s Offices to support central communications strategies and brand standards.

Acad. Job: Postdoctoral Researcher – Researcher-to-Policy Collaboration Optimization

Position Description

We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (Postdoc) appointment that will support the optimization of the Research-to-Policy Collaboration (RPC; research2policy.org). Housed in the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center at The Pennsylvania State University (PSU), the RPC is an approach for facilitating partnerships between researchers and congressional officials in ways that are thought to support policymakers’ use of research evidence. This optimization study will examine how augmenting the RPC’s ability to cultivate empowering settings can increase policy engagement, influence, and benefits, particularly for researchers of color. The scholar selected for this position will collect and analyze in-depth qualitative data from researchers involved in the RPC via semi-structured interviews and focus groups.

Candidate sought to fill a Researcher role (funding pending) in the Department of Health, Behavior & Society at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The candidate will be part of the Gender Equity Core of the Data for Health Initiative, a global project focused on improving public health data systems. While funding is pending for this project, it is highly likely. Funding will be through March 2023 with the possibility of a two-year renewal.

The June 30th deadline for submitting papers in the 7th annual Inman Award competition is rapidly approaching!

This competition recognizes the best student research and writing on topics related to intelligence and national security. The winner of the Inman Award will receive a cash prize of $5,000, with two semifinalists each receiving a cash prize of $2,500. This competition is open to unpublished work by undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in degree programs at accredited U.S. higher education institutions during the 2020-21 academic year.

CFP: Minorities in Central-Eastern and Southeastern Europe

Nowadays Central-Eastern and Southeastern Europe (MOSO) presents itself ethnically, culturally, linguistically and religiously as a highly heterogeneous area. This picture is shaped by a rich and eventful history, imperial and post-imperial influences in the region, political ruptures, the formation of nation-states and migration. In the meantime, the diversity of nationalities has solidified in a colourful world of nation-states, in which almost every nation has its own national territory.

However, the very idea of the homogeneous nation-state often means that different minorities are included in individual countries. These minorities were often repeatedly suppressed or attempted to be assimilated with a view to homogenisation. In recent decades, however, efforts to integrate minorities and their recognition in MOSO have increased. But the policies of the respective countries towards their (often several) minorities are still at stake.

The organization assists Russians fleeing from Russia to Europe, the US, and elsewhere, with asylum cases, practical assistance, and training, so exiled activists can continue their pro-democracy and activist work. Through programming supported by the US Department of State and private foundations, it promotes an understanding of what is happening inside Russia, whether politically, economically, or focused on issues of rights and institutions, through research and the issuance of reports. Finally, the Free Russia Foundation works with Congress, the US Administration, and the EU to advocate for policy that supports Russian human rights activists and advocates for democracy in the country. The President Natalia Arno, and FRF researchers, are often called upon by members of Congress to assist with policy development and legislative drafting.
