Hindi Urdu Flagship Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Hindi Urdu Flagship is an undergraduate program at the University of Texas at Austin designed for students who wish to achieve advanced professional proficiency in Hindi and Urdu while majoring in a wide variety of programs, including Business, Communications, Engineering, and Liberal Arts.

The first and only Hindi Urdu program of its kind, HUF combines an intensive four-five year curriculum, which includes a study abroad component, with individual attention and mentoring by Flagship instructors and native-speaker teaching assistants.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to provide technical and media assistance to the HUF team under the guidance and direction of the Directors and Assistant Director.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
 Assist the Directors and Assistant Directors in the coordination and implementation of special technical and media projects Assist Directors in developing online language learning and pedagogical content  Edit and upload video and other multimedia content to WordPress Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Must be an enrolled graduate student taking at least 9 hours during the semesters employed by the HUF program.
 Must have highly advanced technical and web skills including experience creating and managing web content with WordPressKnowledge of creating media content with Adobe InDesign

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Knowledge of Hindi and/or Urdu- Excellent written and oral communication skills
 Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision

TERMS OF EMPLOMENT
Fall 2013 appointment: August 28, 2013- December 31, 2013
 Spring 2014 appointment: January 1, 2014- May 31, 2014 Part-time position (20 hours) at a salary of $17.56 per hour
 Hours to generally be scheduled between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday.

Teaching Assistant Position-First Year Hindi

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to provide instructional assistance to an instructor of Hindi 506/507 First Year Hindi under the guidance of the instructor and Hindi Urdu Flagship Director, Rupert Snell.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
 Assist the instructor with various duties associated with teaching first year Hindi Assist with lesson planning and coordination of in-class activities Assist with grading of assignments and exams Hold regular office hours to provide additional pedagogical support to students. Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Must be an enrolled student in a Masters program taking at least 9 hours during the semesters employed by the HUF program. Must possess very high level of proficiency in Hindi language. Professional demeanor. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Reliable, punctual, and have some flexibility in schedule for events including occasional evening and weekend events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Experience working with undergraduate students
 Experience in teaching, preferably in language pedagogy. Background in language pedagogy, applied linguistics, and/or education. Experience working with a diverse college student population Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision

TERMS OF EMPLOMENT
Fall 2013 appointment: August 28, 2013- December 31, 2013
 Spring 2014 appointment: January 15, 2014-May 31, 2014. Part-time position (20 hours) Salary according to College of Liberal Arts TA rates.

Fall 2014 Application for admission

The Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC) has announced that the application system for fall 2014 will open on August 15. Remember to submit your application at least one month before the deadline so your recommenders have plenty of time to submit your letters of recommendation.
