Brumley Next Generation Fellows Program

The Robert S. Strauss Center for International Security and Law is pleased to announce the launch of a new research mentorship and fellowship program geared towards graduate students at the University of Texas at Austin. Open to graduate students at UT Austin in the first year of their program at the time of application, the Brumley Next Generation Fellows Program will bring together students from different departments on campus studying issues across the spectrum of international security and foreign affairs.

Graduate Fellows will be paired with a Distinguished Scholar at the Strauss Center conducting research relevant to the Fellow’s degree under a Strauss Center program. Fellows will engage in their own research on a program-relevant topic, and will also assist their Distinguished Scholar with his or her existing research initiatives. In addition to the research component, Fellows are expected to maintain a deep level of engagement with the Strauss Center, attending conferences and events. Fellows will be included in private sessions and meetings with policymakers and scholars who are brought to campus to collaborate on Strauss funded research, furthering networking opportunities.

There will be a monthly Graduate Fellow Colloquium, during which Fellows convene for a lunchtime discussion with a policymaker, practitioner, or visiting scholar to discuss current research work as well as career advancement and development. During these colloquia Fellows will also share their own research, and provide feedback on their peers’ projects. Fellows may also apply for travel funds to sponsor trips to conferences to present research, conduct research in archives, or present a lecture on another campus.

There will be an information session on the program Tuesday, February 24th from 12:15-1:30pm in SRH 3.122 (more information on our website). There will be an additional information session in late February or early March; stay tuned for more details.
