Qualifications
• Education: Current graduate or professional student (Ph.D. (or equivalent), Master’s, J.D.); or Completed Ph.D. (or equivalent), J.D., or Master’s degree.
• Test Scores: Top-tier test scores on one of the following: GRE, GMAT, LSAT, or SAT.
• Teaching Experience: Have taught at least one university semester/quarter class.  Prior university teaching experience is required.
• Quantitative and Verbal Skills: Must have BOTH excellent math and verbal/writing skills.  Sherwood Test Prep Instructors teach the entire course.
• Consistent Sunday Commitment: We seek team players who are flexible and can teach on consecutive Sundays throughout the entire year.  We only take off four weekends per year (those corresponding to): Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s.  Instructors can teach from 3 to 6 hours per weekend.

INSPIRE, an undergraduate women’s leadership program, hiring GA

INSPIRE, an undergraduate women’s leadership program, sponsored by the Center for Women’s & Gender Studies, is seeking a graduate student to fill a GA position as facilitator beginning in January 2014. (Read about INSPIRE here)

This position is responsible for coordinating activities and meeting with the sophomore cohort twice a month to introduce them to new ways of thinking about leadership, higher education, community, feminist ideas (de-stigmatizing feminism), and communication. A safe space must be created within the group to talk about what leadership is in feminist terms, and begin the process of learning critical thinking and acquiring the tools to be successful in higher education and in the professional world. This position has the potential to continue over multiple years.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be able to foster the initiative and creativity of the young women. The facilitator will guide the conversation, but must not take control of what will be talked about and discussed, or what projects they will engage in.  The facilitator will be a guide and mentor.
  • Be very patient and have a lot of energy to coordinate meetings, supervise projects and work with 12 second-year college students.
  • Be able to work within a loose structure. There are expectations and guidelines in the program, but the facilitator must be flexible in order to make the program enjoyable and effective with consideration to the individual students.
  • Be well versed in women’s and gender issues, with the intersection of race, class, ability, language, sexuality.
Compensation: Up to 10 hours/week at $15/hour

Graduate Student Position: Web Developer

 

The UT International Office (IO) is the institutional home for Study Abroad, International Student & Scholar Services, English as a Second Language Services, Global Risk & Safety, and Global Initiatives. Our goal is to provide opportunities to learn about the world through education.

 

We are seeking a graduate student with the skills to assist with maintenance of the IO website <http://world.utexas.edu>, as well as manage the creation and implementation of new sub-sites, pages and elements for the site.

 

Position responsibilities:

The Web Developer will act as project coordinator and primary client contact for assigned sites, support other Web site design, development and maintenance projects. The Web Developer will use content management system (CMS) and hand-coding HTML and CSS to develop Web pages. The International Office uses Drupal as its CMS.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • ·        Must be a graduate student at The University of Texas at Austin for the Fall 2013 semester
  • ·        Knowledge of web content management solution design and template development, includingDrupal, Joomla or WordPress
  • ·        Knowledge of standards-compliant web development in HTML, XHTML, CSS, and scripting languages (PHP), as well as ability to hand-code HTML and CSS
  • ·        Ability to develop and test web content and standards-compliant code for cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility
  • ·        Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ·        Understanding of fundamental design principles typography, layout, grid systems, hierarchy, color and composition
  • ·        Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver)
  • ·        Ability to work in partnership with others in a collaborative or advisory role

Hours: Maximum of 19 hours per week.  The hourly rate is $12.

Starting:  Fall 2013, start date varies by position.

Required: individual must be available to work between 15-19 hours during Fall 2013 and Spring 2014, if applicable. Summer 2014 may be a possible extension for some positions, noted below.

 

There are four positions, and five vacancies:

  1. Advising Team support – reporting to Advising Team Leader (2 positions), Fall and Spring, start no later than first class day.
  2. Freeman Grant support – reporting to Program Coordinator, Fall only, Spring pending grant renewal, to start immediately
  3. Student Travel Policy support – reporting to Health and Safety Coordinator, 12 mos. Position (includes Summer 2014), to start immediately.
  4. Leadership support – reporting to Assistant Director, Fall and Spring, start no later than first class day.

 

Overview of Duties:

  • Advising students for summer programs (Spain, UK, Italy)
  • Presenting to small student groups
  • Schedule meetings and outreach events across campus
  • Assist with customer service, particularly Study Abroad front desk / peer advisor desk, general (including email) correspondence and phone as needed
  • Database management, student records organization, website updates
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Skills:

Required: Flexible, organized, independent worker, strong verbal and written communication skills, familiarity with data tracking and analysis, and advanced use and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite,

Preferred: Knowledge of University administrative processes and customer service experience is helpful.

For Advising Team support positions, candidates with study abroad experience, peer advising experience and/or tutoring experience will be preferred.

The first and only Hindi Urdu program of its kind, HUF combines an intensive four-five year curriculum, which includes a study abroad component, with individual attention and mentoring by Flagship instructors and native-speaker teaching assistants.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to provide technical and media assistance to the HUF team under the guidance and direction of the Directors and Assistant Director.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
 Assist the Directors and Assistant Directors in the coordination and implementation of special technical and media projects Assist Directors in developing online language learning and pedagogical content  Edit and upload video and other multimedia content to WordPress Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Must be an enrolled graduate student taking at least 9 hours during the semesters employed by the HUF program.
 Must have highly advanced technical and web skills including experience creating and managing web content with WordPressKnowledge of creating media content with Adobe InDesign

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Knowledge of Hindi and/or Urdu- Excellent written and oral communication skills
 Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision

TERMS OF EMPLOMENT

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to provide instructional assistance to an instructor of Hindi 506/507 First Year Hindi under the guidance of the instructor and Hindi Urdu Flagship Director, Rupert Snell.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
 Assist the instructor with various duties associated with teaching first year Hindi Assist with lesson planning and coordination of in-class activities Assist with grading of assignments and exams Hold regular office hours to provide additional pedagogical support to students. Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Must be an enrolled student in a Masters program taking at least 9 hours during the semesters employed by the HUF program. Must possess very high level of proficiency in Hindi language. Professional demeanor. Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Reliable, punctual, and have some flexibility in schedule for events including occasional evening and weekend events.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Experience working with undergraduate students
 Experience in teaching, preferably in language pedagogy. Background in language pedagogy, applied linguistics, and/or education. Experience working with a diverse college student population Self-directed, requiring minimal supervision

SAHELI seeking bilingual volunteers

SAHELI: Asian Family Support Services of Austin is a nonprofit organization based in Austin, Texas, that provides assistance to Asian and other immigrant families dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking.

SAHELI is seeking on-call Language Access Program Advocates to work within their ethnic communities to provide crisis management, advocacy, and peer support to domestic violence survivors in their native language. The advocates will also work with SAHELI to conduct community outreach within their communities to raise awareness about the issues of domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking.

SAHELI is looking for empathetic individuals with excellent communication skills, who understand domestic violence issues, immigrant concerns and are perceptive to client’s needs.

This individual should be actively engaged with their specific community, appreciate Asian family and community dynamics and communicate sensitive information in a culturally appropriate manner.

Candidates must be bilingual in English and at least one of the following languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Japanese and Karenni.

This is an on-call contact position where hours worked are based on need. Advocates are required to attend regularly scheduled paid trainings. $14.25/hour. US work permit is required.
