A Day of Discovery: UT Austin Visits Texas A&M for Lab Tours and Networking

In March, the University of Texas at Austin students embarked on an enlightening journey to Texas A&M University, filled with lab tours, educational exchanges, and plenty of fun!

Morning Lab Tours

Our day began bright and early, leaving UT Austin at 9:30 AM and arriving at Texas A&M by 11:30 AM. We started our adventure in the Chemical Engineering Department, where we explored groundbreaking research in different labs.

First, we delved into the world of titanium nitride 2D materials, discussing their applications in electrocatalysis and energy storage. The cutting-edge lab equipment provided us with a hands-on look at the frontiers of chemical engineering research. Our next stop featured research on organic materials geared toward energy storage and polymer applications. This lab’s innovative approach to solving modern challenges was truly inspiring!

Lunch Break at Mo’s Irish Pub

After a morning filled with stimulating academic discussions, we took a well-deserved break at Mo’s Irish Pub.

This was more than just a meal; it was a vibrant gathering for sharing ideas, laughing, and building bonds over delicious food!

Post-lunch, our group toured more labs and explored the A&M campus. From the Mechanical and Materials Engineering departments to the fascinating particle accelerator facility, the sheer scale of the campus amazed us all! At the Baker lab, we learned about nanoscale electrochemical characterization techniques, including a converted AFM that can probe electrochemical responses at an incredibly minute scale. Our final lab visit introduced us to ‘click chemistry’ and the synthesis of new electrolytes. The innovative spirit of A&M’s researchers was on full display, pushing the boundaries of synthetic chemistry.

Led by Laura Hoagland, we toured iconic campus locations, learning about A&M’s rich history and traditions. From the superstitions surrounding the Century Tree to the grandeur of Kyle Field, every site had a story to tell.

Our day concluded in the Chemical Engineering Department’s conference room, where we unwound with pizza and board games. Laughter and competitive spirits marked this enjoyable end to a fantastic day!

As we said our goodbyes and captured final moments with a group selfie, the sunset on an unforgettable visit. We left A&M enriched with new knowledge, friendships, and an eagerness for future collaborations.

We invite all ECS members to join us in future events to experience this wonderful blend of professional growth and personal enjoyment. Your participation makes these gatherings truly special!
