Dear Friends,
It was great to see so many of you at the fall meeting in October. Thank you again for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend. For those of you unable to join us, please take a moment to read the meeting overview below. There are many exciting opportunities on the horizon, and we will need the help of the entire council to make them a reality.
One item of business we always discuss in the fall meeting is nominating new members to join next year’s council. Our council has always been unique at UT thanks to the dedication and strong support of its members, and we are excited to welcome new friends to continue that tradition.
Here are a few reminders about the nominations process:
- Any Active or Sustaining member can submit a nomination.
- Nomination forms and the nominee’s resume or a list of their arts involvement need to be submitted to Natalie Schuessler no later than December 31.
- Acceptance is not guaranteed.
Please review the nomination form with your nominee to ensure they understand the membership obligations. They will assist the dean in three crucial areas: fundraising, advocacy, and advising. They are also expected to pay $1,500 in annual dues and attend our semi-annual meetings in the fall and spring. Membership terms begin in September 2019.
Speaking of spring meetings, please invite your nominee to one of our upcoming regional meetings. If they are unable to attend, please share meeting materials and review with them how our meetings are structured and the kinds of information we discuss.
As many of you know, our bylaws limit our active members to 75, so you may be wondering how many “openings” we have for the coming year. However, please don’t forget that we are more concerned with quality over quantity. We are looking for enthusiastic, hard working individuals who will demonstrate a serious commitment to the College of Fine Arts and include us in their philanthropy.
Thank you in advance for submitting your nominations, and please feel free to reach out to Sondra or any member of the Nominating Committee if you have further questions.
Finally, please mark your calendars for next year’s fall meeting on Friday, September 20. More details will be shared in early 2019.
I wish you and your families a very happy holiday season, and I thank you for your service to the Fine Arts Council.
Cheers,
Sara Hallam
