The Health Behavior Research and Training Institute (HBRT) develops, tests, and disseminates behavioral interventions targeting the prevention or cessation of adverse health behaviors. Grounded in the transtheoretical model of change (TTM), HBRT’s evidence-based research and training activities have targeted alcohol-exposed pregnancy, tobacco and substance use, sexually transmitted disease, diet, and management of chronic health conditions.
HBRT’s work, funded by NIH, CDC, SAMHSA and other federal and state agencies, has ranged over the past 25 years from multisite randomized clinical trials to the training of clinical staff, physicians, and medical residents in evidence-based practices, in settings as diverse as trauma centers, community clinics, criminal justice facilities, addiction treatment centers, and regional health systems.
