Writing Appointments

Experienced graduate consultants are available for 45-minute, one-on-one writing appointments. Consultants are trained to work with you on any writing project and at any stage of the writing process. Click here to book an appointment.

Standing Appointments

We will offer two sessions of standing appointments this semester. If you book a standing appointment, you will meet with the same consultant on a recurring weekly basis for five or six weeks. Standing appointments can be particularly useful for help with larger, longer-term projects like articles or dissertation chapters. Bookings are limited to those who can commit to all weekly appointments in a given session. This semester’s sessions will run from the week of Sept. 11 – week of Oct. 16 (Session I) and the week of Oct. 23 – week of Nov. 27 (Session II). Be on the lookout for a sign-up email in the next week!

Writing Groups

Offered twice per semester, quiet writing groups meet once/week for five or six weeks. Led by graduate consultants, writing groups include accountability check-ins to set goals and reflect on personal writings habits and progress on a project, followed by a period of sustained quiet writing. All writing groups are currently held over Zoom. In addition to our quiet writing groups, we will also be offering groups geared toward multilingual writers and first-gen writers. This semester’s sessions will run from the week of Sept. 11 – week of Oct. 16 (Session I) and the week of Oct. 23 – week of Nov. 27 (Session II). We will announce sign-ups in the next week or so; you can also follow our Eventbrite to stay up to date.

Graduate Writing Retreats

Attending a writing retreat is a great way to protect your time and get some focused writing done in a community of fellow graduate students. Retreats include coffee, snacks, and the opportunity for brief one-on-one consultations with a writing consultant. All retreats are held from 10:00-5:00, but you are welcome to come and go as you please. Registration is required.

If you have questions about these or other services, you can be in touch with uwcgradservices@utexas.edu. And if you have interested graduate colleagues, don’t hesitate to ‘subscribe’ on the Grad Services listserv!
