In Memory of Shelly Botello
1961-2016
Ms. Shelley Botelunnamedlo was the leader of the sexual assault forensic examiners team at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, Texas for many years. She personally cared for thousands of sexual assault patients and oversaw the care of 15,000+ patients. She was a consummate professional who always did the right thing. She trained thousands of SANES, physicians, nurses, law enforcement officers and lay persons on sexual assault, domestic violence and elder abuse over the course of her long career. Her positive impact cannot be measured.In addition to her forensic duties she went on mission trips to Guatemala every year, working with underprivileged families. She helped every person she knew. She was a long standing IAFN member and served Texas on the Practice/Education Committee advancing forensic nursing practice. She also received numerous well-deserved awards for excellence in nursing practice.
