The Institute for Military & Veteran Family Wellness is an interdisciplinary collaboration between faculty and staff from the Steve Hicks School of Social Work and Dell Medical School. The Institute conducts research, evaluation and program development to improve the lives of service members, veterans and their family members. We seek to improve the quality of mental and behavioral health by identifying and promoting evidence-based practices in practice and community settings. The institute’s commitment to collaboration is evident through our close working relationships with military and veteran families during program development, and engagement of patients and clients during our evaluation and research. We continually seek to develop strategic partnerships with community, private and government service providers and funders.
In order to impact families now and in the future, the program focuses its work in three key areas:
- Research on practices and programs that support service members, veterans and their families.
- Training & Graduate Education to offer professionals with evidence-based practices, innovative modalities and culturally relevant techniques to effectively serve military and veteran families.
- Community Engagement that ensures all stakeholders are involved so that the voices of service providers, researchers and veteran & military communities inform our research.
