Change Management

What is Change Management?

IT Change Management is the process of requesting, assessing, testing, authorizing, publishing, implementing, and reviewing changes to IT service assets.

The purpose of IT Change Management is to enable beneficial change with minimum disruption to IT services. IT Change Management processes ensure that changes are recorded and authorized at the appropriate level.

ET Change Management Processes

The Enterprise Technology (ET) Change Management processes meet the foundational requirements for industry best practices as detailed within the ITIL framework for IT Change Management.

The objectives of the ET Change Management processes are to:

  • Assess changes based on their impact, benefit, and risk to the business in order to reduce their potential impact
  • Establish clearly defined best practice processes to ensure compliance with university change management guidelines
  • Ensure that all changes are appropriately prioritized, tested, implemented, and documented;
  • Ensure that all changes are scheduled based on ER and university requirements, have allocated appropriate resources, and have considered other changes being implemented
  • Provide timely communication to stakeholders for changes to ET service assets
  • Provide change process performance reports, including trending information and specific key performance indicators, to drive continuous process improvement

Change Advisory Board

A Change Advisory Board (CAB) is an integral part of the ET change management process. The CAB designed to balance the need for change with the need to minimize inherent risks.

  • ET CAB Meetings occur Thursdays from 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm.
  • If there are no agenda items to review by noon the business day before a scheduled meeting, the CAB Facilitator may cancel the meeting.
