Lan Nguyen won first place at the University Forum student paper competition at the Water Environment Association of Texas/Texas Section AWWA annual meeting, Texas Water 2024 for her presentation titled “Quantifying particle-associated and planktonic Legionella spp. in U.S. building plumbing and drinking water distribution systems”. The conference was held this year in Fort Worth, and students from around the state presented at the session led by Dr. Kayleigh Millerick. Dr. Millerick noted during the session that she remembered when Danielle Angert had presented on the same project at the same session just the year prior, where she had also earned a top award!
Our research is focused on the intersection of biology and environmental engineering. Current projects span topics ranging from the development of a novel treatment of Legionella pneumophila to the elucidation of the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
