UTeach Outreach

The UTeach Outreach program is looking for exceptional freshmen, sophomores, or juniors seeking an unparalleled leadership role and looking to make a big difference in the community. We are currently accepting applications for our Spring 2011 Section Leader In Training and Office Manager positions. Each position pays $10/hr and is specialized based on the experience and skills you wish to develop. Detailed job descriptions are listed in the attached application.

General Job Requirements:
– Minimum of three semesters left to complete UT degree plan
– Enthusiastic
– Organized
– Ability to multi task
– Interested in making a difference in the lives of thousands of A.I.S.D. students each semester

Liberal Arts Undergraduate Chapter for Research

Any students working on a thesis or any research projects are invited to have their research featured on the LAUNCH (Liberal Arts Undergraduate Chapter for Research) Blog.  It’s a great way to get some exposure, get feedback about your insights, and learn to synthesize and discuss your findings.

LAUNCH also hosts the Student Research Forum, which gives students the opportunity to present their research projects to a faculty panel, which selects four to five students each year for a sponsored trip to the National Convention of Undergraduate Research.  If you are interested in having your research featured on the LAUNCH blog email publicity_chair@launchut.org and for more information about LAUNCH visit www.launchut.org

Carnegie Endowment Junior Fellow Program

2010 – 2011 Carnegie Endowment Junior Fellows Program

Deadline for The University of Texas at Austin nominations:  November 18, 2010

Nominations are now being accepted for The University of Texas at Austin selection of candidates for the 2010 – 2011 Carnegie Endowment Junior Fellows Program.  Eligible students will be in their senior year or alumni who have graduated within the past academic year and have not yet started graduate studies. A maximum of two students will be selected to represent The University of Texas at Austin in the competition to be selected as a Carnegie Endowment Junior Fellow.

Criteria for selection include outstanding academic achievement, demonstrated leadership ability, excellent communication skills and interest in developing a global perspective on world events. Applicants should have completed a significant amount of course work in international affairs, political science, economics, history, mathematics, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, native or near-native Arabic, Middle East studies, energy or climate studies and/or communications

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and promoting active international engagement by the United States.  As one of the world’s leading think tanks specializing in international affairs, the Endowment conducts programs of research, discussion, publication and education.  The Junior Fellows Program at the Carnegie Endowment is designed to provide a substantive work experience for students who have a serious career interest in the area of international affairs.  Approximately 8-10 students will be hired to work at the Carnegie Endowment in Washington, DC on a full-time basis for a period of one year. http://www.carnegieendowment.org/about/index.cfm?fa=jrFellows

UDALL SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

Nominations are now being accepted for The University of Texas at Austin selection for candidates for the Udall Scholarship.

In 2011, the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation expects to award 80 scholarships of up to $5000 and 50 honorable mentions of $350 to sophomore and junior level college students committed to careers related to the environment, tribal public policy, or Native American health care.
Eligible students will be current University of Texas at Austin students with sophomore or junior standing in the 2010-2011 academic year with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 studying the environment or related fields or a Native American or Native Alaskan and studying health care or tribal policy. A maximum of six students will be selected to represent The University of Texas at Austin in the competition to be selected as Udall Scholars.

Students interested in becoming an Udall Scholar are invited to attend a special information session on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 4 pm at the University Honors Center (CRD 23). Oliver Bernstein, Senior Communications Strategist for the Sierra Club and a former Udall Scholar will be present to answer questions and provide advice.

TIP Mentor Positions

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work with incoming freshmen?  The Texas Interdisciplinary Plan (TIP) Mentor Academic Peer Mentor Academy is now accepting applications for those wishing to work as Peer Mentors for Fall 2011 through Spring 2012 academic year.

I have had the pleasure of working with many LAH members as the coordinator of the TIP Academic Peer Mentor Academy for the past six years and would love to continue this partnership with you!  As an academic peer mentor you can have the unique opportunity to work with our incoming class of TIP Scholars and help them have a smooth transition to university life and achieve academic excellence.

LILAS Study Abroad Scholarships

The Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies is announcing our
competition for Summer 2011 undergraduate travel grants for study abroad in
Latin America. Students must attend a degree-granting institution and bring
back at least six hours of college credit.  Awards are $2,500 apiece.  Below

Pre-Grad Internship

Dear UT Undergraduates:

With registration for next semester coming up in a few weeks, let me tell
you about an exciting internship course.

Are you thinking about whether graduate school is in your future?  Are you
uncertain about what it would be like to be a graduate student and what
academic program may be suited best to your interests and career goals?

If your answer to these questions is yes, you may wish to consider
undertaking the Intellectual Entrepreneurship (IE) “Pre-Graduate School
Internship.”  This internship is open to students in all UT
colleges/schools and departments.  You may earn one, two or three hours of
academic credit (CMS 164M/264M/364M) by participating in the internship.
