Help students believe in their potential and aspire to lead!
Veronica Vargas Stidvent, Program Director for Subiendo: The Academy for Rising Leaders at the University of Texas at Austin, has asked us to reach out for help in gathering counselor applicants for the 2011 Subiendo Academy. The position pays $500 and the academy runs June 12th – 16th. Counselors can be graduating seniors, so this position is perfect for students unsure of what their plans are after graduation. Counselors attend 4 leadership lunch trainings in addition to the Hispanic Leadership Summit, where they get to personally interact with local business, political and university leaders. The application will remain open until positions are filled. For information on how to apply as well as more information about the program can be found online at www.subiendoacademy.org
Subiendo: The Academy for Rising Leaders brings to the University outstanding students who have completed their junior year of high school. These students participate over a five-day (four-night) period in intensive leadership training and community building exercises. Counselors are needed to lead these students through the program. Students learn valuable skills through simulation exercises and classroom training. Student cohorts analyze policy issues and present solutions in a plenary session. Last year students also participated in additional activities, including a visit to the state capitol, meeting with business leaders, and recreational networking and team-building exercises.
