Internships at the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate

Internships at the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate

Spring 2013

The Honorable Tryon D. Lewis, State Representative, District 81, is once again looking for LAH students to serve as interns in the upcoming legislative session, beginning in January 2013.  He will have a position in his office and tells me that he is willing to find other opportunities for LAH students in the offices of his fellow Representatives and Senators.

Students should be able to devote a good deal of time to this endeavor, which means having a relatively light spring schedule or one that frees up several whole days during the week.

LAH student, Armen Hazarian, served in Representative Lewis’s office last year, and both the Representative and his chief assistant have nothing but praise for his work.  So if you are interested, you may want to talk with Armen.

This is an extraordinary opportunity, and I hope many will take advantage of it.  If interested, please submit to the LAH Office a cover letter, outlining your educational background and interests and an updated résumé by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 22nd.

Support LAHers in Texas 4000 with a T-shirt!

New Texas 4000 shirts are for sale! T-shirts will be $15 each, and they look pretty amazing. They are American Apparel shirts that are ultra-soft cotton, and as always, the money raised will be going to cancer research! Sizes range from S-XL, and orders are due by Oct 17th (10pm).

UT Micro Farm

The UT Micro Farm will be the first student-run sustainable farm on UT’s forty acres! We have the land, now we just need you and your ambitions!

This project is thoroughly interdisciplinary. Whatever it is you are passionate about or skilled in, there’s a way for you to get involved. Let’s put our diversity of interests together to grow food that we can all enjoy!

The UT Micro Farm endeavor will require the efforts of several student-operated “micro-projects.” There is ample opportunity for you to become directly involved in whatever it is that fascinates you:

Engineering and designing a rainwater collection & shading structure
Tending to an APIARY (beekeeping)
Compost management
Blogging
Graphic design & photo/video media
Hunting for donations & discounts
Wicking beds
Planning social events and workshops
Developing educational materials
Managing an on-campus farm stand

The UT Micro Farm is a place to experiment and to learn. Imagine the possibilities…and if you’ve got some of your own imaginings, please share your ideas!

Find out more about the project online: http://utmicrofarm.tumblr.com/ and https://www.facebook.com/UTMicroFarm

And then don’t hesitate to contact us at gardening@utenvironment.org to start the conversation!

Best,

Daniella Lewis
