To celebrate the launch of LGBTQ Studies at UT, the program will host a symposium. The symposium’s theme is “Queer Camaraderie” and will feature presentations and performances by Rod Ferguson & Lyndon Gill; Ernesto Martínez & Julie Minich; Josh Guzman & Chad Bennett; Xandra Ibarra (La Chica Boom) & Laura Gutiérrez; and Kim TallBear and Ann Cvetkovich. All groups are free and confidential. This group is for anyone who self-identifies as transgender &/or gender non-binary and is seeking a space for self-exploration and support. Topics may include gender identity- including binary and non-binary experiences, transition/post-transition/not-transitioning, impact of transphobia, intersecting identities, self, relationships, family, bodies, sexuality, sex, community, academics, mental health, and general wellness.
All prospective group participants are asked to attend a meeting with the facilitator to provide you with more information and determine if this group would be a good fit for you. Join us for a kick-off event for Queer Voices this spring! Queer Voices is a discussion group from CMHC that meets weekly as a space for queer people to talk about issues that impact our lives, get support, and build community. A major purpose of these meetings is to promote positive mental health in today’s world while juggling the demands of being a student. Come make some delicious s’mores (we are providing the ingredients, including vegan marshmallows) and join us to talk about mental health, self-care tips, and managing stress.

Sanger Learning Center and BeVocal: The Bystander Intervention Initiative of The University of Texas at Austin seek proposals for faculty, staff, and/or student-led workshops and panels for the inaugural Student Educator Forum on Saturday, April 21, 2018. Examples of student educators include Learning Assistants, Tutors, Mentors, Peer Educators, etc. The Student Educator Forum is an opportunity to showcase your professional experience, share your legacy as a student educator, network with other student educators, and help make UT Austin a better place for future generations of students by working to create a culture of care.
Students, faculty, and staff with marginalized and underrepresented identities in gender expression and identity, ethnicity, race, size, national origin, immigration status, sexual orientation, affectional orientation, age, physical and mental abilities, religious beliefs, spiritual identities, and socioeconomic status are encouraged to submit proposals.
The University Writing Center will be offering two free workshops on writing effective forum proposals. The dates and times are below. Both workshops will be held in the PCL Learning Lab 2.
