Diverse Voices: Climate Change and Health – Nov 20

Please join the LAH Diversity Action Committee and the Office of Diversity and Organizational Climate for our next Diverse Voices event featuring Dr. Sharmila Rudrappa on Wednesday, November 20 at 12 PM at the Julius Glickman Conference Center in RLP 1.302 B. The title of her talk is “Climate Change and Health: Observations from Southern India.

Dr. Rudrappa researches and teaches about reproductive justice, labor markets, and gender. She has previously written on Indian software workers in the U.S. and global surrogacy in India. Her broader work is on what she calls “markets in life,” which covers her research on labor markets and infertility assistance, and the impacts of climate change on global health.

Jean Holloway Award for Excellence in Teaching

The Student Selection Committee encourages you to nominate your favorite teachers for the Jean Holloway Award for Excellence in Teaching.

This award is presented annually to a teacher in the College of Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences who demonstrates a warm spirit, a concern for society and the individual, and the ability to impart knowledge while challenging students to independent inquiry and create thought.

The award amounts to more than $4,500, and the recipient is recognized with a ceremony in the spring. More information can be found at txex.es/hollowayThe nomination deadline is Monday, November 18th, 5:00 pm.

LAUNCH Research Scholarship

This semester, LAUNCH is awarding at least two scholarships of $250.00$500.00 each for those pursuing a research project in the College of Liberal Arts. The goal of the scholarships is to encourage the pursuit of personal initiatives within Liberal Arts research. These scholarships can assist in accomplishing the initial steps of a proposal, such as securing funding for data collection. If a specific need for a stipend is demonstrated, these scholarships can also act as a form of compensation.

The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Chapter for Research, or LAUNCH, is an organization dedicated to connecting undergraduate students with research opportunities within the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. LAUNCH aims to accomplish the following goals:

  • Host faculty research presentations
  • Organize chats, meetings, and events with professors conducting Liberal Arts research
  • Publicize information about funding, scholarships, and presentation opportunities
  • Create a network of undergraduate researchers in the College of Liberal Arts
