IE PreGrad Internship Innovations (CMS364M)

The IE Pre-Graduate School Internship provides undergraduates with an immersive experience of being in graduate school, empowering them to explore graduate school and the career options it makes possible. Undergrad Interns are paired with graduate student mentors and/or faculty advisors who guide their internship. Benefits of the Internship include:

  • Experiencing first-hand what it’s like to be in graduate school.
  • Discovering the opportunities a graduate degree provides.
  • Developing skills necessary to succeed in graduate school.
  • Creating materials that make an appealing graduate school applicant.
  • Learning how to stay resilient and build a career in the current economy.

Note: (1) It can definitely be completed virtually, (2) Students can participate even if they haven’t secured a mentor, and (3) Workshops will now feature content about staying resilient and navigating what may be a very uncertain landscape

Interested in Legal Internships? Join an info session with Professor Mark Levy!

Thursday, April 24th, 4 pm: https://utexas.zoom.us/j/97788943494

America’s laws, lawyers, and courts have charted and changed the course of American history. In our classroom discussions and readings, we will explore the role of lawyers and how the practice of law has shaped American society. As a component of Liberal Arts Frontiers, students in the Legal Internships clinic will also intern in law offices or legal settings and meet weekly in class to discuss and learn from each student-intern’s experience. The hands-on experience students gain in their public service internships will help shape our classroom discussions, from topics including legal ethics and professional development to legislative oversight and settlement negotiations. Students will learn about the practice of law and how lawyers serve the public interest while gaining practical experience and first-hand knowledge of different legal fields.

The cornerstone of the Legal Internships clinic will be your participation as a student-intern in a legal, public policy, judicial, or legislative office. While help will be provided to select your internship before the semester begins, the final choice of where you work will be yours. The role you choose should be discussed and decided upon with your host supervisor and the course instructor. Examples of suitable host agencies include the Office of the Attorney General, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office, Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid, the Texas Public Policy Foundation, judicial chambers, or a legislator’s office. Private legal offices are not eligible to host interns.

Students should make their best effort to have their host agency selected and approved before the semester begins.

Apply now to INSPIRE, Empowering Texas Women Leaders

INSPIRE is a three-year program (sophomore to senior) that encourages undergraduates to think not only about their own future but also about the future of their communities and what tools are necessary for social change.

INSPIRE is a unique and transformative space at UT. While students are provided professional development workshops, travel to conferences, and assistance as they work on group and personal projects, the biggest impact of this program might be that it provides the space and time to step back and reflect on what it means to be a student, more than likely a first-generation college student, and more often than not in male-dominated careers.

Visit our website HERE to learn more about INSPIRE.
View our You Tube video HERE.
Find our application HERE

The application deadline has been moved to August 4, 2020. All applicants will be notified in September 2020 on the status of their application and will then begin their INSPIRE experience.

Opportunities:

  • Community service/leadership development
    • Mentoring and networking
    • Internship/career assistance
    • Attending leadership conferences

Four primary criteria guide the competitive selection process:

  • Individual leadership potential;

    • Special interests, unique characteristics and/or diverse experiences, which contribute to the INSPIRE program;
    • Willingness to commit to the program.

INSPIRE does not have a course requirement, but we do expect the students in the program to attend twice monthly meetings. There are additional occasional activities/ opportunities outside of these meetings.
