2022 Public Relations Fall Intern

THE PURPOSE OF A RED FAN INTERN 

An internship with Red Fan Communications is a paid position for junior, senior, and graduate program university students to bring their coursework to life and gain hands-on experience in the B2B, technology and consumer sectors. Interns work alongside our accounts and management teams to learn the ropes of agency life, account and client management.

Fellows are very involved in our work and we make sure they get a chance to do everything — drafting press releases, conducting media outreach, building reports — that a future employer in PR/communications would be looking for —

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the agency accounts team in all areas of agency and account services including media relations, communications strategy, research, writing, media monitoring and reporting, internal communications and thought leadership.
  • Under direction of Account and Media Relations Managers, draft media contact lists, pitches and press releases.
  • Assist in brand and thought leadership campaigns by researching and completing drafts for awards, conferences and speaking engagements that promote subject matter experts to their target audience.
  • Assist in creating media coverage and intelligence reports.
  • Assist in creating monthly client and campaign reports using software tools to identify metrics such as media mentions, share of voice and keyword prevalence.
  • Demonstrate strategic use of your time, present smart ideas and regularly report on results.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Pursuing or have recently completed a degree in PR, journalism, communications or marketing.
  • Entering your junior or senior year, or are enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Coursework and/or previous internship experience in media relations (building media lists, drafting media pitches and/or writing press releases).
  • A diligent writer and editor with superior communications skills.
  • You have a working knowledge of strategic PR media campaigns, and experience in media pitching and press release writing.
  • Interested in data-backed research and analytics.
  • You desire to continue learning and advancing your career within an agency environment.
  • High attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • You’re a reliable, proactive, proven team player with a can-do attitude.

Recruiting Inaugural Volunteer UT Student Fellows

The Center for Community Engagement is recruiting for the inaugural class of Volunteer UT Student Fellows!

Deadline August 31, 2022

Volunteer UT Student Fellows will serve as ambassadors between The University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Community Engagement and the 18 colleges and schools across the Forty Acres. Each student fellow will act as a dedicated liaison to two academic units, connecting them with CCE resources to support service learning and community engagement.

Fellows will be appointed for one academic year and receive a $1,000 stipend for their service awarded upon completion of the program.

Expectations and Goals for Fellows

The main objective for student fellows is to provide support to faculty and staff to incorporate service learning into coursework, research, and student groups affiliated with academic units. As ambassadors to the colleges and schools across the university, student fellows will:

  • Connect with stakeholders from schools and colleges at the annual Community Based Learning Symposium
  • Provide ongoing support for faculty and staff to incorporate service learning into coursework, including one on one appointments and office hours
  • Conduct outreach to staff and faculty in their designated academic units
  • Present about CCE resources, including GivePulse, at faculty meetings in their designated academic units
  • Conduct Volunteer UT training for staff in their designated academic units
  • Gather information about service learning and community engagement from designated academic units for the Carnegie Classification Committee

Program Qualifications 

Applicants for the Volunteer UT Student Fellows Program should meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Current full-time undergraduate student at The University of Texas at Austin
  • Must be in academic good standing
  • Available to attend required weekly meetings
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experienced, engaging speaker and presenter
  • Committed to uphold the values of the Center for Community Engagement

Important Dates

Selection Process and Dates:

  • August 31, 2022 at 11:59pm – Application due
  • September 1, 2022 – Notification of advancement to interview
  • September 6 and 7, 2022 – Interviews
  • September 7, 2022 by end of day – Final decision emails are sent

Mandatory Dates (upon acceptance):

  • September 9, 2022 (2-4pm) – Orientation
  • September 13, 2022 (6-7:30pm) – Pre-symposium information meeting
  • September 15, 2022 (9:00-11:00) – Community Based Learning Symposium
  • Weekly meetings: Determined per fellows availability
