Arab American College Students Needed!

Consider participating in a study exploring the Arab American college student experience. The primary focus of this study will be about how Arab American college students navigate their identity and how they experience belonging. Participants should meet the following criteria:

  • Self-identify as Arab American
  • Be born in the United States
  • Have a least one parent who immigrated to the United States from the Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region and they identify as Arab
  • Be enrolled as a second-year or later as an undergraduate student at The University of Texas at Austin

STEM Scholarships and Fellowships

PathwaysToScience.org has over 70 portable scholarships and fellowships posted. These include undergraduate funding opportunities with an emphasis on increasing diversity in STEM. FALL UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM (FURS)

Undergraduate researchers from UT and across Texas will speak on their research projects in the biological and chemical sciences and may participate in the Science Slam! General sessions will include 8-minute research presentations followed by 2 minutes of questions. Science Slam talks are 3 minute “elevator” talks in which students describe their research targeting a non-scientist/layperson audience.  

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Jason McLellan of UT, the recipient of the 2022 O’Donnell Award in Medicine for his work on COVID spike protein structure, “The ‘Overnight’ Vaccine: Years in the Making”. 

15 graduate schools from across Texas will also be at the event for recruiting!

RESEARCH PLACEMENT MIXER

This event provides a place for undergraduate students in search of research experiences to speak with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students from different disciplines who are seeking students to assist on projects. This is intended to be an informal atmosphere where conversations about research and interests can take place. There is no special dress code or requirement. Snacks will be provided!

Join us for a student panel and networking session where you’ll hear from CNS peers who have been involved in research, internships, study abroad and research abroad, entrepreneurship activities, and more. They’ll share their experiences and provide advice and tips for finding opportunities and getting involved. There will be plenty of time for Q&A, and pizza will be provided!

Undergraduate Research Fellowships

Applications are now being accepted for the fall 2022 Undergraduate Research Fellowships, which provide up to $1,000 to support expenses for independent research or creative activity in any major. URF awards cover costs for scholarly projects proposed by student applicants under the supervision of a faculty member. Awards are made in the fall and spring through the Office of Undergraduate Research. Submit your URF application by the 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 deadline. You can learn more about the process and hear tips for writing your own application at our funding workshop, which will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m.; register to attend

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship provides $30,000 towards a public service-related graduate degree to students who aspire to work in a public service career.  The Truman foundation broadly defines public service to include employment in government, public-interest organizations, nongovernmental research, academic institutions, and nonprofit organizations. Juniors, or seniors, graduating in 2023-24, OR, seniors graduating early (3 years or less) in 2022-23 are eligible to apply. UT application deadline: October 28, 2022.  Learn more at www.truman.gov/
