Research Opportunity for East Asian Males

Hi Everyone,
Dr. Marlone Henderson in the psychology department is looking for participants in one of his new projects. The project focuses on reactions to interracial prosocial interactions. He is specifically in need of an East Asian male to help create photographs of someone helping another person. The photographs will be inserted into fake news stories (e.g., helping a homeless person) that describe a helping encounter between people of either the same race or different race. So, he is  looking for someone willing to play the role of a giver or receiver and be photographed.
If anyone is interested, they can email Dr. Henderson at marlone.henderson@utexas.edu

There will be breakfast tacos and coffee. Please RSVP with Erin and me by November 10th. (Limited paper copies of Dr. Steele’s book are available. Tell us if you want one!)

JapanLab Spring 2023 Internship

I wanted to bring your attention to an opportunity for any undergraduate students you know who are interested in Digital Humanities. The JapanLab, a joint project between the History and Asian Studies department, is recruiting students for three teams for Spring Semester 2023. As part of these teams, students will get first-hand experience creating digital humanities resources, including educational games and historically-accurate 3D models. They will also be eligible to receive 3 credit hours through the COLA internship program. No prior knowledge of computer science or Japanese language/history is necessary, though experience in either of those areas will be considered beneficial. We’re looking to recruit widely, so if you could forward the following to any students you know who might be interested, we would be very grateful! Applications are due on Nov. 12th, and we’ll reach out for interviews shortly thereafter. I’m happy to answer any questions that you or your students may have about this opportunity.

JapanLab seeks to recruit around 12 students for projects starting in Spring 2023. The projects can be seen here (as well as in the attached poster):

Sanger Learning Center hiring student educators

The Sanger Learning Center is hiring student educators for next spring, and we would love for you to share far and wide with your advisees. Applications for most positions are due November 6.

We are hiring for Tutors (all areas, but especially PHY, ECO, Math, languages, and ACC/FIN), Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders, and Peer-Led Undergraduate Study (PLUS) Coordinators. All positions start at $14/hour.

We love motivated students, but interested applicants need not have a flawless academic record—great student educators tend to be those who can communicate well, manage their time, empathize with peers, and recognize that all learning is a process. We encourage students from all majors and backgrounds to apply. A flyer with QR code is also attached.

Both advisors and interested students may contact carissa.abrego@austin.utexas.edu with any questions. Thanks!
