New Funding Round for BIES Research Fellowships – Applications due March 10

Apply Now through March 10 for Spring and Summer Research Fellowships

Graduate Students and Undergraduates Are Eligible

British, Irish and Empire Studies has announced a new funding round for its research fellowships. Graduate students may receive awards of up to $2,500, undergraduates up to $500. Applications are due by midnight, Friday, March 10.

Fellowships may be used to fund a variety of research activities relating to Britain, Ireland, and the current and former British Empire. Eligible activities include but are not limited to travel to archives, purchase of books, fees for access to online documents and databases, and travel to present work at professional conferences. The fellowships will cover documented expenses incurred from date of award through August 15, 2023.

Applications must include a cover sheet stating the applicant’s EID, the total amount of funding requested, the timeframe of the research planned, and whether the applicant has previously received funding from BIES. The body of the application must include a one- to two-page statement of research goals and methods, a detailed budget for the planned research, and a concise C.V. or resume. A letter endorsing the project should be submitted directly to BIES by a UT-Austin faculty member with knowledge of the applicant’s abilities. Upon completion of the project, the fellow must send BIES a brief (one- to two-page) report on the activities undertaken and how they advanced the fellow’s immediate and longer-term educational goals.

Students who have previously received research funding from BIES are eligible to apply in this round.
