Liberal Arts Honors Music Ensemble Recruiting New Leaders

The Liberal Arts Honors Music Ensemble has vacancies for President (Spring 2023), Secretary (Spring 2023), and Treasurer (Spring 2023). These are great opportunities to learn how to lead rehearsals and performances, encourage participation, manage repertoire and instruments, and manage a bank account, all in a low-stress and flexible environment. Key takeaways include improved leadership, communication, organization, and teamwork skills. Consider these positions valuable additions to your resume, for any field. Please contact gauravagrawal@utexas.edu by 11/18/2022 if you are interested in holding one of these positions. Prior music experience, as well as experience composing pieces, is preferred but not required.

Liberal Arts Honors Study Abroad Scholarships

The Liberal Arts Honors Program will award scholarships in varying amounts to support LAH students and Humanities majors who will be studying abroad in the Spring, Summer, and/or Fall.  An LAH student may apply for this scholarship by writing a one-page statement of his or her study abroad plans. The statement should include where and what the student will be studying, the projected cost involved, and the role that study abroad and the mastery of a foreign language plays in the student’s academic and career goals.

Now is the time to apply for Liberal Arts Honors Study Abroad Scholarships! Deadlines are:

5:00 pm November 15 for Spring.

5:00 pm March 15 for Fall and Summer.

Please submit your application online through the study abroad online scholarship application, Global Assist, and select “Get Started”. The website will prompt you to set up an online profile and show you a list of scholarships which criteria you meet. If you are applying for a study abroad program not affiliated with UT, please enter program code 300999.

Both LAH students and Humanities majors are eligible to apply for the LAH Study Abroad scholarship. Please contact the LAH office with any questions.

Sanger Learning Center Hiring Student Educators

The Sanger Learning Center is hiring student educators for next spring, and we would love for you to share far and wide with your advisees. Applications for most positions are due November 6.

We are hiring for Tutors (all areas, but especially PHY, ECO, Math, languages, and ACC/FIN), Supplemental Instruction (SI) leaders, and Peer-Led Undergraduate Study (PLUS) Coordinators. All positions start at $14/hour.

We love motivated students, but interested applicants need not have a flawless academic record—great student educators tend to be those who can communicate well, manage their time, empathize with peers, and recognize that all learning is a process. We encourage students from all majors and backgrounds to apply.

Both advisors and interested students may contact carissa.abrego@austin.utexas.edu with any questions. Thanks!

McNair Scholars

Please help us spread the word that applications for McNair Scholars are open. McNair, part of the U.S. Department of Education’s funded TRIO programs, guides first-generation and low-income and/or underrepresented students into Ph.D. programs, and provides funding to assist with that process.

There are several info sessions scheduled; students can find details on the attached flyer and on the website.

You and your students are welcome to email me (nabeeha.chaudhary@austin.utexas.edu) or Dr Eric Dieter (ericdieter@austin.utexas.edu) with any questions. Please forward widely to your colleagues and students. Thank you for helping us spread the word.
