Friar Society Accepting Applications
The Friar Society is the University’s oldest honor society and is dedicated to recognizing students who have made lasting and significant contributions to the University. Membership is open to any graduate student or any undergraduate student who has 75 hours.
The Friar Society encourages any student who is interested in applying to download an application from the Friar Society website (www.friarsociety.org). In order to be fully considered, the application should be turned in by 5 PM on March 23rd to the Student Organization Center desk on the 4th Floor of the Student Services Building. You can also contact Dave Player (daveplayer@utexas.edu) or Reid Long (Reid.Long@utexas.edu) with additional questions.
Texas Cable & Telecommunications Association Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is open to all UT students.
Application deadline: 5:00 p.m. March 30, 2012
Awarded by the College of Communication to any UT junior, senior or graduate student who has a high degree of interest in a career in the cable television industry.

Language and Cultural Studies Career Boot Camp
If you missed the LAH Boot Camp and study languages or area studies, I highly recommend attending this. Career Services has very helpful information.
We would like to invite your majors to a Career Boot Camp for language majors and majors from the smaller cultural studies programs. We will be holding the event on Wednesday, March 28, from 5-7, in the Gebauer fourth-floor conference room. And there will be pizza!!
To attend, you will need to RSVP to Joni Carpenter (joni.carpenter@austin.utexas.edu) by March 21, at the latest, so they can get a pizza-ordering head count.
Echo Literary Magazine
This is just another reminder that the Echo Literary Magazine is accepting submissions of poetry, prose, and photography. Submissions are due at the end of spring break, so time is running out to your writing. If you submit you will have a good chance of being published in this year’s magazine!

Apply for LAH Study Abroad Schoalrships
If you are studying abroad in Summer or Fall of 2012, now is the time to apply for LAH study abroad scholarships! Applications are due 5:00 pm April 2, 2012 for Fall and Summer programs.
The Liberal Arts Honors Program will award scholarships in varying amounts to support LAH students and Humanities majors. You may apply for this scholarship by writing a one-page statement of his or her study abroad plans. The statement should include where and what the student will be studying, the projected cost involved, and the role that study abroad and the mastery of a foreign language plays in the student’s academic and career goals.
Please submit your application online through the study abroad online scholarship application, Global Assist and select “Get Started”. The website will prompt you to set up an online profile and show you a list of scholarships which criteria you meet. If you are applying for a study abroad program not affiliated with UT, please enter program code 300999.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants Deadline 4/1
Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year. These awards are available to all University of Texas at Austin undergraduates, not just Phi Kappa Phi members. Students at The University of Texas at Austin are also eligible for a $500 chapter Study Abroad Grant. Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest, largest, and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines. The University of Texas at Austin chapter was founded in 1962. The society gets its name from the initial letters of the Greek words forming its adopted motto: Philosophía Krateíto Photôn, “Let the love of learning rule humanity.” Phi Kappa Phi awards more than $800,000 annually through graduate and undergraduate scholarships, member and chapter awards, and grants for local and national literacy initiatives. Membership is by invitation only to the top 7.5 percent of second semester juniors, the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students with a 4.0 GPA. The student must have completed at least seventy-two semester hours of coursework at the University. New members are inducted in the spring semester.
