Foot in the Door Spring audition information

WELCOME TO A NEW SEMESTER OF GREAT PLAYS AND GREAT PEOPLE

If you are interested in acting, tech, or have any interest in our company at all, come see us at auditions! 

Auditions consist of cold readings from the plays, so you don’t have to prepare anything. Bring yourself, some friends, a pen/pencil, and be ready to play. You only need to come to one night to be considered, but coming to both doesn’t hurt! 

We are doing three shows this semester:

Language and Culture in Salvador, Brazil

It is still possible to apply to the summer program in Salvador.  It is being run this year as a special affiliated program. Course offerings include both lower division, including Portuguese for Spanish speakers, and upper division. Dan Siefken from Study Abroad will have an info session next Wednesday at 5:00 in Benedict 1.118. I’ve attached a brochure. The deadline is February 15.

Clements Center Internship Information Session

Internship Information Session

Wednesday, Jan 25, 2017   |   12:00-1:00 PM   |  Texas Governors Room

On January 25th, the Clements Center will host an Internship Information Session at the Texas Governor’s Room (UNB 3.116) from 12-1pm. Clements Center staff will be on hand to provide tips and strategies for applying to summer internships in the fields of national security, foreign policy, and intelligence. Fellow UT students will also talk about their experiences with the application process, internship programs, and financial resources. A light lunch will be provided.

The Texas Law Career Services Office would like to invite you and your public service-minded students to a presentation on federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness and the income-drive repayment programs. National student loan expert Heather Jarvis will present “Public Service Loan Forgiveness in Five Easy Steps” in the Law School’s Francis Auditorium (see map) on Friday, January 27 , from 11:45 AM -1:00 PM.

Although the program is being hosted by the School of Law, the information shared will be beneficial to students and professionals of all disciplines employed in the public sector. We hope that you and your students will attend. RSVP on Eventbrite by Wednesday, January 25, 2017. There is no cost to attend.

UTLA Fall 2017 Application Deadline & Information Sessions

The Semester in Los Angeles (UTLA) program is currently accepting applications for Fall 2017 and beyond. The deadline to apply for Fall 2017 is February 13th, 2017

UTLA Information sessions are scheduled in early February for the following dates:

Tuesday, February 7, 1:00PM-2:00PM, CMA 5.136

Thursday, February 9, 3:30PM-4:30PM, BMC 5.102

These sessions will be general in nature and intended for anyone with questions about the program, online application, costs, L.A., etc.  Phil Nemy, UTLA Director, will be in Austin and hosting these sessions.

LGBTQA+ Identities, Ally Toolkit Part 1:

Offered Two Times This Spring: W 2/8, 11a-1p, SAC 2.120 OR Tu 3/28, 2-4p, MEZ 2.124

In this intersectional workshop for LGBTQA+ and non-LGBTQA+ identified people, you will learn and practice a series of vocabulary tools for your support of LGBTQA+ justice in your classrooms, offices, and conversations. You will learn and practice describing the differences between assigned sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and romantic orientation; you will reflect on your own identities. You will practice identifying – and enacting bystander intervention in – microaggressions around gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and romantic orientation. And you will set your intention for inclusive language (including pronouns) for your communities. You will also learn about existing and necessary campus resources for LGBTQA+ people. Attend this workshop on its own or continue on to Practicing Allyship (Ally Toolkit Part 2) with the option to join Allies in Action. LGBTQA+ Identities (Ally Toolkit Part 1) is a prerequisite for Practicing Allyship (Ally Toolkit Part 2).

Practicing Allyship, Ally Toolkit Part 2:

Offered Two Times This Spring: Tu 4/25, 2-4p, MEZ 2.124 OR W 5/10, 11a-1p, SAC 2.120

*Prerequisite: LGBTQA+ Identities (Ally Toolkit Part 1)

In this workshop for LGBTQA+, straight, and cisgender people (and people whose identities overlap), you will learn and practice interrupting systemic oppression of LGBTQA+ people in your classrooms, offices, and conversations. You will learn about and practice identifying how multiple systems of oppression (including racism, ableism, classism, and sexism) overlap with heterosexism and cisgenderism on our campus. You will reflect on your own social identities, your relationship with systems of oppression, and your roles in interrupting oppression to make campus safer and more welcoming for all LGBTQA+ communities. At the end of this workshop, you will have the opportunity to sign the Ally Program Pledge and receive the Ally Card. Note: This workshop is available only for people who self-select or volunteer to attend. If you supervise someone whom you would like to see build their familiarity with LGBTQA+ terms and concepts, please advise them to attend the LGBTQA+ Identities (Ally Toolkit Part 1) workshop.

Clean Up on Aisle 10 is an original comedy about a scavenger hunt that takes place in a local Walmart. Three raucous teams, two bumbling announcers, one overworked associate, and one resident drunk roam the store wreaking havoc and taking names. As the hunt rages on tensions run high and friendships are born. If you’ve ever been to a Walmart you will enjoy this play! If you’ve never been to a Walmart you will enjoy this play! Taco’bout Research – LAUNCH Relaunch

Are you interested in research, but don’t know what resources are available or which professors to talk to? On Thursday, November 10th from 1-3pm in the CLA’s Glickman Center, students will be able to meet professors pursuing research in Liberal Arts and learn how to get involved in undergraduate research at UT! This year, Liberal Arts Council will be unveiling LAUNCH, the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Chapter for Research, an organization that promotes research in the College of Liberal Arts. We would like to encourage all Liberal Arts students to learn more about how to get involved with future LAUNCH events! Also, free tacos from Taco Shack will be provided during this event.

The event will begin with a keynote speech from Dean Musick, Liberal Arts Associate Dean for Student Affairs, who will speak about the importance of undergraduate research. We will then break into 20-minute small groups during which students will be allowed to discuss research directly with the professors. The food will be served at 12:45.

Students will be able to sign up for a professor and 20-minute slot by 11:59 PM on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH. Students can attend more than one time slot by signing up on the form. Furthermore, students are still encouraged to sign up for a time slot with a professor even if they cannot attend the entirety of the two hours of the event! A confirmation email will be sent before the event to notify students of their time slots.
