CWGS Undergraduate Assistant – Paid opportunity for Fall 2017 and Spring 2018

The Center for Women’s & Gender Studies (CWGS) seeks an Undergraduate Assistant 

(5 hours/week at $10/hour) to help with the WGS Undergraduate Initiative (SAGE) program, and CWGS social media. 

 

The goal of SAGE is to connect like-minded students (WGS majors and other feminist/queer scholars), to build community, and to help grow the Women’s & Gender Studies major.  SAGE is open to all majors, minors, and any student interested in Women’s and Gender Studies.

SAGE operates with the help of two graduate student facilitators and one Undergraduate Assistant. All SAGE Team Members participate in creating and completing weekly action items.  The Undergraduate Assistant serves as the first contact for SAGE social media/publicity/emails announcements, acts as undergraduate major liaison/focus group of one, meets weekly with the SAGE facilitators, and coordinates CWGS social media.

As CWGS Social Media coordinator, the Undergraduate Assistant will work with the Senior Events Program Coordinator to promote CWGS events and programs on all social media outlets.

Ideal candidates should have an understanding of social justice and WGS issues; strong organizational skills; enthusiasm for working with undergrads, performing outreach, and promoting WGS scholarship; attention to detail and time management; and the ability to work within deadlines.

Work-study positions available at Women’s & Gender Studies

Spring 2017: Seeking Awesome Work-Study (for Receptionist/Clerical or Design help)

All genders are encouraged to apply!  Must have work-study from the Office of Financial Aid.

M-F; 8am-5pm flex., around 10 hours/week.  $10/hr.

Student will be qualified to perform such duties as: answering phones, preparing mailings, including event publicity; data entry; office filing; making campus-wide deliveries; flyering; acting as front-desk receptionist; helping with website; and assisting with event coordination.  Experience with creating flyers (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc) would be great too, but not required. 

Students may also be asked to help with other clerical tasks in the office.

Summer and Fall opportunities may also be available.

Seeking creative Videographer/Video Editor for (awesome) Student Assistant Work-Study position

We’d like to hire someone before Spring 2017 classes begin, if possible.

We are looking for someone who can make videos for our social media outlets.  The ideal candidate should have experience shooting and editing videos.  Knowledge and enthusiasm for feminist and social justice issues is also wanted, but also a willingness to learn is appreciated.  Ideal candidate should also be skilled at time management, able to multi-task, meet deadlines and balance multiple projects.

Graphic design skills are also a plus.

This position will also help manage the front desk/reception area.  Students will also be asked to help with other clerical tasks in the office.

Texas Rising Hiring Phone Bankers

Do you have a passion for civic engagement? Are you fired up about this election?

I’m looking for passionate people to help Texas Rising get young voters out to the polls during early voting and on Election Day!

Phone bankers will work to expand the overall outreach efforts of the organization with respect to our non-partisan civic engagement work. Texas Rising, a project of Texas Freedom Network Education Fund, is focused on turning out 18-29 year olds to vote in the 2016 presidential election. This position will last approximately 2 weeks and is a part-time, seasonal position.

Job Description

  • Contact voters by phone using a script and ask a series of questions from that script. Collect and enter responses into a computer, and collect and manage data.
  • Regular check-ins with TFNEF staff about ongoing call progress.
  • Be available to attend a phone bank training and 3 phone banks.

Requirements

  • Energetic and positive attitude, must be able to talk on the phone and have meaningful conversations with voters
  • Considerate and professional
  • Teamwork and a positive attitude are critical to the success of the campaign
  • Care about progressive politics, youth organizing and grassroots communities
  • Able to take direction from Outreach staff
  • Transportation to and from phone banks
  • Bilingual; English and Spanish (preferred but not required)
  • Previous experiences as a phone banker on a non-profit or political campaign (preferred but not required)

Compensation

Positions have a commitment to attend all scheduled trainings and shifts. $10.00 hour. Callers will work a total of 11 hours earning a total of $110.

Thursday 10/20/16- 5:30p-7:30p (training)

Thursday 10/27/16- 5:30p-8:30p

USAID Payne Fellowship Application Announcement: Oct. 1, 2016- Jan. 20, 2017

It is with great pleasure that we announce the opening of the USAID Donald M. Payne International Development Fellowship Program 2017 application! The application can be found at www.paynefellows.org and will remain open until January 20, 2017.

The Donald M. Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship seeks to prepare young people for careers in international development as Foreign Service Officers in USAID.  USAID has expanded the program, which selected three fellows in 2013, and will offer up to ten fellowships in 2017.  The best way for potential applicants to learn more about the programs is through our website at www.paynefellows.org.  They can also feel free to contact us directly by e-mail (paynefellows.org) or phone (202-806-5952).  We are pleased to answer any questions. 

The Payne Fellowship Program provides benefits of up to $94,000 over two years toward a two-year master’s degree, arranges internships in Washington D.C. and at USAID missions overseas, and provides professional development and support activities leading to employment in USAID.  Fellows may use the fellowship to attend a two-year master’s program in a U.S. institution to study an area of relevance to the USAID Foreign Service, including international relations, public policy, agriculture, environmental sciences, health, business administration, economics, or urban planning at a graduate or professional school approved by the Payne Program.  At the end of the two-year fellowship, Fellows enter the USAID Foreign Service.  The Payne Fellowship encourages the application of members of minority groups who have historically been underrepresented in international development careers and those with financial need.  Applicants must be college seniors or graduates looking to start graduate school in the fall of the year they apply, have GPAs of at least 3.2 and be U.S. citizens. The program welcomes applications from those with any undergraduate major.

Academic Mentor

Academic Mentors help students structure their daily academic tasks, monitor class progress, and assist with basic

Tutor
Tutors are content-focused guides who explain concepts in depth at the individual student’s pace. Tutors may
conduct individual, small group, and walk-in tutoring sessions for specific courses. Sessions are typically scheduled
on a weekly, recurring basis, but may also be scheduled as needed throughout the semester.
Compensation
• $11+ per hour, depending on qualifications ($12+ per hour with writing specialty)

Qualifications
• Knowledge in content areas to be tutored
• 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
• Grade of ‘B’ or better in courses or content areas to be tutored

LAH Paid Office Assistant Positions for Fall 2016

The LAH office is hiring Student Assistants for reception desk and light office duties for Fall 2016. Work days and hours are:  Tuesday and Thursday between 8:00 am -2:00 pm and Fridays 10:00 am -2:00 pm. You need to be available to work at least two hour blocks within this time-frame. Position pays $10.00 an hour.
