Texas Athletics Student Services Job Opportunities

Texas Athletics Student Services is dedicated to providing holistic student services for student-athletes. Tutor

Tutors are content-focused guides who explain concepts in depth at the individual student’s pace. Tutors may conduct individual, small group, and walk-in tutoring sessions for specific courses. Sessions are typically scheduled on a weekly, recurring basis, but may also be scheduled as needed throughout the semester.

Compensation
• $11+ per hour, depending on qualifications ($12+ per hour with writing specialty) • Merit pay rate increases based on longevity and positive performance reviews

Qualifications
• Knowledge in content areas to be tutored
• 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
• Grade of ‘B’ or better in courses or content areas to be tutored
• Effective listening and communication skills
• Respect for individual differences and a variety of academic backgrounds
• Ability to commit to tutor at least five (5) hours per week for the entire semester
• Ability to commit to participate in initial orientation and ongoing training throughout employment
• Undergraduate applicants: Completion of at least two (2) long semesters enrolled full-time in residence

Office Assistant

Office Assistants provide clerical support to the professional staff with the Texas Athletics Student Services office.

Compensation
• $10+ per hour

UT Austin Student Training & Internship Program for HCM & IT Consulting Career Paths

UT Austin announces a new training and internship program for students interested in Human Capital Management, Systems and IT consulting. 

This program is designed to train UT-Austin undergraduates in cloud-based HCM, Payroll and Financial Administration systems in support of the University’s implementation of the new Workday enterprise application. During this spring and summer program, students will be trained on Workday technologies and business processes, and complete a full-time internship at UT Austin working on the Workday application configuration, quality assurance, implementation, security and business process adoption.

Program Overview

  • Title: Administrative Systems Modernization Program (ASMP) – Workday Analyst Internship
  • Eligibility: UT Austin undergraduate students with a 2.7 or higher GPA and graduating in 2017 or 2018. Explore the full internship requirements listed at the link above.
  • Pay: $18 per hour
  • Training: Workday@College provides comprehensive human capital management training in online and on-site courses. Training covers organizational structures, staffing, compensation, business processes, security and report writing. Training takes place online April 1-29 and on-site May 16-23.
  • Internship: The UT Austin ASMP Workday Analyst internship portion of this program takes place during the summer, from May 25 – August 12, 2016. This is a full-time internship, requiring 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm. 
    • Immediately contribute to the implementation of the cloud-based Workday HCM solution on campus
    • Work in a dynamic team environment
    • Gather and analyze business requirements
    • Assist as needed with the design, implementation, testing and optimization of Workday business processes, configuration, reporting, and integrations
    • Advise on options, risks, and any impact on current processes or systems
    • Learn about on-going organizational change management, communication, training to facilitate adoption
    • Be among one of the first college students trained on Workday, a game-changing and in-demand solution
  • Fall Semester & Beyond: Beginning in fall 2016, the internship converts to a 20 hour/week student campus job until graduation.

Breakthrough Austin

Are you looking for an exciting reason to stay in Austin this summer? Check out Breakthrough Austin, a local nonprofit organization that focuses on getting first generation college students the skills they need to be successful before, during, and after college. As a Breakthrough Teaching Fellow, you will be in charge of developing and delivering lessons to a class of about 10 middle school aged students. You will work closely with an Instructional Coach from an Austin-area school, and on a team with other college students from across the country. This is a paid internship, you will be a quarter time AmeriCorps member (and receive an education award upon completion of the program), and there is inexpensive housing provided by the program should you need it. Customized Programs Student Assistant – International Office Study Abroad

Position Description

Provide administrative support for the Customized Programs Team.

Hours: 10-12 hours per week.

Hourly Rate: $8.25.

Starting: As soon as possible.

Required: Individual must be Federal Work Study Eligible and available to work 10-12 hours per week over the spring and potentially this summer and next year.

Department: The Customized Programs Team builds and coordinates faculty-led programs, administering approximately 25-30 faculty-led programs each year, including four-week Maymesters, six- to nine-week summer programs, and UT Semester Plus programs.

 Overview of Duties:

Work with Customized Programs Team Coordinators related to the following functions:

·        Student recruitment, advising, and retention.

·        Pre-departure preparations and forms.

·        Faculty director logistical preparations.

·        Other tasks as assigned by program coordinators.

Spring Semester Part-Time Nanny needed Tuesdays and Thursdays

I am in need of a reliable, energetic person with a car to pick up my creative, energetic, 11 year old daughter from school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 and hang out with her to get her going on homework (tho’ she can be left alone). Pay $13.00 an hour. General time frame- Pick up at 3:30 until 5:30. The most important time is pick up. Academic Mentors work with students in a structured environment to assist in the development of each student’s ability to effectively transition from high school to college and to develop study skills they will be able to use throughout their college experience. Ideal Mentor candidates will have prior teaching experience or career goals in education.

Applications for the U.S. Dept. of State’s Summer 2016 Critical Language Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the U.S. Department of State’s Summer 2016 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Programin 14 critical foreign languages.

The CLS Program is overseen by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. It is a overseas,intensive language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students.CLS has summer sessions each year in a variety of overseas locations, and uses an intensive, group-based method of language instruction.  CLS goals are to increase the number of Americans studying and mastering critical languages, and to build relationships between the people of the United States and other countries.

CLS provides opportunities to a diverse range of students, from across the United States, at every level of language learning.  The CLS Program seeks participants with diverse interests, from a wide variety of fields of study, backgrounds and career paths, with the purpose of representing the full diversity of the United States. Students from all academic disciplines, including business, engineering, law, medicine, science, social sciences, arts and humanities are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility requirements – Applicants must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application, and be enrolled in an accredited U.S. degree-granting program at the undergraduate (associate’s/bachelor’s) or graduate (master’s/doctoral/professional degree) level.  For more information about CLS eligibility requirements, visit:

The 14 CLS languages areArabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, and Urdu.  Swahili will, for the first time, be offered at the beginning through advanced levels. Costs covered by CLS include:  Intensive overseas group-based language courses (20+ hours per week); room and board, often with a host family; a full cultural program; host community language partner; U.S. academic credit issued through Bryn Mawr College; domestic and international airfare; and a small stipend to cover incidental expenses and meals not provided by the program.

There is no requirement for CLS alumni to perform U.S. Government service after they participate in the program. Participants are, however, expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period, and to later apply their critical language skills in their professional careers. Participants are selected based on their commitment to language learning and plans to apply their language skills to their future academic or professional pursuits.

Apply to be an Orientation Peer Adviser for Summer 2016

New Student Services is recruiting and selecting Orientation Advisers who will help develop, plan and implement the 2016 orientation program..

Orientation Advisers support and mentor new freshman and transfer students as they transition to The University of Texas at Austin. To prepare for this critical role, Orientation Advisers receive extensive leadership training that serves them throughout their time at UT Austin and beyond. They also learn valuable academic advising skills, write and perform in productions, develop creative media, plan large-scale events and much more.

Students from any college and classification are eligible to become an Orientation Adviser. To apply, students MUST attend one of the following OA Information Sessions:

In addition to scheduled work hours, Academic Tutors are required to attend an orientation session at the beginning of the semester as well as several scheduled meetings throughout the semester. Academic Tutors must possess the ability to work positively with students within the boundaries and standards set by the Intercollegiate Athletics Department at The University of Texas and the NCAA.

*Note: These are part-time positions and are paid on an hourly basis. They do not meet the criteria needed for in-state tuition or benefits at the University.
