Call for Study Abroad Scholarship Application!

The Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies is now offering a number of travel scholarships to Liberal Arts majors for study abroad in Latin America, both for summer 2019 and for the academic year 2019-2020.  For summer 2019, we are offering ten $2,500 travel scholarships.  Students must attend degree-granting institutions in Latin America this coming summer for a summer session and return with at least six hours of college credit.  For the academic year 2019-2020, we will award six $5,000 travel scholarships for semester-long study abroad in Latin America.  Awardees must attend degree-granting institutions in Latin America and return with at least 12 hours of college credit.  These awards are merit-based.

Texas Exes Scholarship Application Now Open!

The Texas Exes application for Current UT Students and Transfer Student scholarship is now open!

The application has opportunities available for current UT undergrads, grad students, or incoming Fall 2019 transfer students. Students must be planning to enroll full-time for the 2019-2020 school year.

The deadline will be March 1, 2019 at 11:59 PM CST. Students can apply by going to texasexes.academicworks.com and click “sign up” or “sign in” in the upper right-hand corner!

UGS Summer Exploration Grants

The School of Undergraduate Studies offers competitive grants to students seeking funds to promote academic and career exploration. Grants can be requested in any amount up to $2,000, provided that the student carefully considers and succeeds in communicating how his or her academic or career plans will benefit from the experience. Recipients of the Summer Exploration Grant are encouraged to be creative with their planned exploration. Since the program’s inception in 2010, recipients have put their grants toward a variety of diverse experiences, including

  • Teaching English to elementary students in Cuzco, Peru
  • Participating in the Halliburton Summer Business Foundations Institute
  • Studying medicinal plants in Cuzco, Peru
  • Providing medical and dental services through Global Medical Brigades in Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Any student currently enrolled in UGS is eligible to apply for a grant, and can request funding of up to $2,000 to explore a major, career, or field of interest over the summer. The deadline to apply for a grant is Friday, March 1, 2019 by 11:59 p.m. Find more information at 2019 UGS Summer Exploration Grant

Spring 2019 Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) provides up to $1,000 in support for specific scholarly research projects conducted by full-time UT undergraduate students enrolled in any department. Sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research with support from the academic colleges, these fellowships are intended to cover costs associated with academic research projects proposed and written by student applicants and undertaken with the supervision of a university tenured or tenure-track faculty member, lecturer, senior lecturer or full-time research scientist/engineer. Some restrictions apply.

Dallas and Decherd Need Based Scholarship Due June 16

Through the generosity of The Isabelle T. (‘37) and H. Ben (‘36) Decherd Fund Honoring Cecil and Ida Green at the Dallas Foundation Scholarship, the Liberal Arts Honors Program has scholarship funds for students in the Program. This money may be awarded to students who have demonstrated financial need and who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship may be used to pay for tuition, fees, and books.

Accepting Applications for 2017 Co-op/Mitchell Undergraduate Awards

The Provost’s Office is now accepting applications for the 2017 University Co-op/George H. Mitchell Undergraduate Student Awards for Academic Excellence.

Each spring, UT Austin, with the generous support of the University Co-op, recognizes up to five undergraduate students for superior scholarly or creative achievement. Two students receive awards of $2,500 each, two students receive awards of $5,000 each, and one student receives the top award of $12,000.

In addition to the student award, the Provost’s Office provides a concurrent award of half the value of each student’s award to the academic department in which the scholarly work was supervised.

Who can apply for the Mitchell Award?

Nominees must be either a junior or senior currently enrolled at UT Austin or have received their undergraduate degree in December 2016. Students must demonstrate superior scholarly or creative achievement through a notable paper or thesis, research project, creative or artistic endeavor, or other product of the student’s academic work. Submitted work should be finished or close to finished (e.g. a complete draft of a thesis or research paper). Previous Mitchell Award recipients are eligible only if the submitted work is a completely different project. 

How to apply for the Mitchell Award:

The application consists of two parts:

(1) the student must submit an online application with four required supporting documents, and

(2) a UT Austin faculty member must submit a letter of nomination for the student

Both the student application and the faculty nomination, with all their supporting materials, must be received by March 22, 2017.

Free Speech Essay Contest

The Department of Philosophy and The BB&T Chair for the Study of Objectivism are excited to announce our annual Free Speech Essay Contest open exclusively to UT undergrads. 

Deadline for submission is March 6, 2017.

All UT undergraduate students are eligible to participate. 

Prizes range from $700-$1500.

The topics this year concern:

   Hate speech

   Classifications of speech

Headliners Foundation Scholarships: Deadline Approaching

A friendly reminder that the Headliners Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2017-18 school year, and the March 3 deadline is quickly approaching.

The Foundation awarded over $60,000 in scholarships for the 2016-17 school year, with individual awards ranging from $2,000 to $6,000 annually.
