NEW Undergraduate Research Fellowships

Students in any discipline whose work relates in any way to studies of Britain, its former (or indeed current, if tiny) Empire, and Ireland are eligible to apply for financial assistance. The newly-constituted Program in British, Irish and Empire Studies (BIES) will offer up to $500 for undergraduate and $1,000 for graduate projects, and the funding may be used for any legitimate and pertinent research activity.

Truman Scholarship Information Session: September 23, 2021, at 5pm CT

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 in funding towards a public service-related graduate or professional degree to students who aspire to work in a public service career. Public service, defined by the foundation, includes employment in government at any level, uniformed services, public-interest organizations, nongovernmental research and/or educational organizations, public and private schools, and public service-oriented nonprofit organizations. Eligible students must be a junior, graduating in 2022-23, OR, a senior, graduating early (3 years or less) in 2021-22. Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans Virtual Information Session for University of Texas Students: October 7, 2021 at 11:30 am CT

The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans is a $90,000 fellowship for immigrants and children of immigrants who are pursuing any type of fulltime professional or graduate school in the United States. Each year, the program awards 30 fellowships to individuals who show promise of future significant contribution. Gilman Scholarship Information Sessions and Workshop

The Gilman Scholarship is a generous federal scholarship for study abroad and a great opportunity for U.S. citizens receiving a Federal Pell Grant to fund their international experience. UT Austin is consistently a top producer of Gilman Scholars.

Education Abroad is hosting 2 virtual information sessions to help students prepare a competitive application. During the information sessions, we will cover scholarship details, selection criteria, and tips for submitting a competitive application. We will also host 1 in-person writing workshops for essay review.

The online application is now open for applicants whose in-person or virtual programs start between December 1, 2021, to October 31, 2022. Virtual programs will be eligible through Summer 2022. The deadline for students to apply is Tuesday, October 52021, at 11:59 pm (Pacific Time).

Fullbright Writing Workshop

We are offering two 90-minute writing workshops to get you started! One writing workshop for the English Teaching Assistant (ETA) personal statement and one workshop for the research grant proposal. Please see the dates below:

In this workshop we will:

  • Strengthen your prose
  • Organize your writing
  • Edit your own and others’ proposals or personal statements
  • Analyze examples of successful proposals
  • Uncover on-going resources for the grant writing process
  • Learn about what should be included in your proposal and personal statement

To make the most of your session:

Bring your drafts and ideas AND get started on your proposal or essay!

Fullbright Info Session

The 2022-2023 Fulbright application cycle is now open!

Fulbright awards graduating seniors, recent graduates, and alumni to conduct academic work abroad in all disciplines, including: STEM, social sciences, humanities, and the performing and creative arts.  A number of countries also offer grants for those who wish to serve as English teaching assistants.

We encourage students to attend a Virtual Information Session and the Writing Workshop. All workshops will be conducted virtually over Zoom. In order to receive an invitation with the Zoom link you must RSVP to the contact below.

Ted Strauss Internship Award

University of Texas undergraduate students are invited to apply to The Ted Strauss Civic Internship Award provided by the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life. This award is meant to supplement students’ paid or unpaid internships in the fields of public policy, public service, government, or politics for the summer. Scholarship Application Deadline Extended Through April 19th

There’s still time to apply for more than $72,000 in journalism scholarships for the 2021-22 Academic YearMain criteria:

  • Applicants must be undergraduate students at a Texas college or university with a solid academic record
  • Applicants must submit published or broadcast work for student media or as interns for professional media – print, broadcast or digital – that demonstrates a commitment to and talent for reporting and storytelling
  • Applicants must submit an essay answering one of three specific questions
  • Applicants must submit at least two letters of recommendation from a teacher, employer or mentor
