Mitchell Scholarship Talk

The Director of George J. Mitchell Scholars Program, Anne Glusker, will be visiting our campus on Monday, April 9th.  She will be holding an information meeting about the Mitchell Scholarship from 4:00 to 5:15 pm in Mezes 0.306.  I very much hope you will be able to attend.

Here is Director Glusker’s short description of the Mitchell Scholarship.  U.T. Austin has had one Mitchell Scholarship since the scholarship program began some twelve years ago.  We need more!

“The Mitchell Scholarship is awarded annually to 12 American future leaders. The Scholarship (named for former US Senator George J. Mitchell who helped broker the peace process in Northern Ireland) provides for a year of postgraduate study in any field at a university in Ireland or Northern Ireland. The criteria for selection are threefold:

1) academic excellence, but we do not have a formal GPA cut-off, so if you have a 3.5 or 3.6, don’t rule yourself out!

2) a sustained commitment to public service

3) a proven record of leadership

You only have to be a college graduate and under age 30 to apply!

The Mitchell is a great experience — Mitchells form tight bonds that last a lifetime and the Mitchell staff helps arrange internships while you’re in Ireland/Northern Ireland, arranges trips and events during the academic year, and helps with post-Mitchell career planning. Personal attention is our watchword!

LIFE X 3 presents a night in the life of two couples – Henry and Sonia, and Hubert and Inez. When Hubert (Henry’s boss) and Inez show up at Henry and Sonia’s for a dinner party on the wrong night, problems include lack of food, copiousness of wine, and Henry and Sonia’s petulant six-year-old who won’t go to bed. Over an improvised meal of chocolate fingers, Cheez-Its, and wine, the couples trade insults on every social and professional level, and loyalties are changed as quickly as glasses of Sancerre are drained.

Casa Herrera Spring 2013 PROGRAM FEE

There is a program fee of $5,975 which includes home stay accommodation, most meals, field trips, cell phones and tuition for the language course. Students are responsible for UT tuition, airfare and personal expenses.

Summer Travel Grants to Europe

The European Union Center of Excellence at UT Austin is pleased to offer grants to three UT Austin undergraduate students to travel to Brussels in the summer of 2012 through the EUCE Brussels Program. The trip is funded through the support of the European Commission and organized by the Network of European Union Centers in the U.S.

All UT undergraduate students may apply and may be from any discipline. Special consideration will be given to those in a program or major that study some aspect of the European Union.

Funding includes round-trip airfare to/from Brussels, five nights of hotel and some meals.

The 2012 trip will be June 17-June 22 (arrive June 17, depart June 22). The agenda is currently being organized but should be similar to previous years (see agenda on website).

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on April 20, 2012. No late applications will be accepted.

Students must provide a UT transcript (can be unofficial) and one letter of recommendation from a UT faculty member. More information is printed on the application forms.

ACE is looking to hire 80 full-time tutors.  All tutors for ACE are Americorps members, so if you are a graduating Senior and looking a productive way to spend the next year, this is a great opportunity!
