March 15 FAFSA Priority Filing Deadline for Students

File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 15 if you need financial aid for academic year 2013-14.

March 15 is the FAFSA priority filing deadline. The State of Texas gives priority consideration for its financial aid programs to otherwise eligible students who file FAFSAs by this date. Also, filing FAFSAs by March 15 puts students in a position to receive the most favorable financial aid packages possible, because it ensures our ability to consider for need-based university grants, which are limited.

The Office of Student Financial Services Students provides various forms of assistance to students completing the FAFSA. These include on-campus FAFSA completion seminars through March 14 and an on-line tutorial, 7 Easy Steps to the FAFSA.

Casa Marianella Fundraiser – Liberal Arts Council

The Liberal Arts Council, the official student voice of Liberal Arts students at the University of Texas at Austin, has pledged efforts for the Spring 2013 semester to raise money for a local Austin charity. The charity we have chosen is Casa Marianella, an emergency shelter for recent adult immigrants to the United States. Casa provides housing and food for up to 35 immigrants, English classes, and a shelter for women and children escaping violent situations, among others. This charity is very worthy and in need of your support so that the Austin area may provide more support for recent immigrants, helping them access recourses and education. Casa Marianella’s website is: http://www.casamarianella.org/

LAC is using the online platform IndieGoGo to raise money to support Casa Marianella. Here is the address: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/fundraiser-for-casa-marianella-in-atx

Any amount of financial donation would be much appreciated. If you are unable to donate through our online platform and would prefer to submit a check, please contact us at utexaslac@gmail.com. Casa Marianella also accepts donations of clothing and household items, which can be dropped off at their location:

821 Gunter St.

Austin, TX 78702

We sincerely appreciate any support you can provide Casa Marianella with during our fundraiser for their shelter!
