UC Berkeley Comparative Literature Undergraduate Journal

My name is Yana Zlochistaya, and I am the Editor in Chief of the Comparative Literature Undergraduate Journal (CLUJ) at the University of California, Berkeley.

I am writing to inform you that we are currently accepting submissions for the Spring 2017 issue and would like to extend this call for papers to all interested undergraduates. Since its founding in 2011, the Journal has published premier undergraduate research in comparative texts and media, treating a broad range of topics including, but not limited to, theoretical literary discourse, international trends in literature, and comparisons of national literature. With every issue, we seek original undergraduate research within the literary humanities. A detailed description of our submission criteria as well as the submission form can be found on our website athttps://ucbcluj.org/submissions/. The deadline to submit to the Fall 2017 issue is January 29 at 11:59 PM, Pacific Time.

We would also like to take this opportunity to encourage students to send applications to Berkeley’s sixth annual Comparative Literature Undergraduate Symposium. I have attached additional information theme_guidelines-2017-symposium about the symposium to this email. Though we fall under the same department, the selection processes for the two are completely separate, therefore duplicate submissions are not only accepted, but encouraged.

We would really appreciate it if you could circulate this email among your students to let them know about this opportunity. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions regarding this CFP. We look forward to receiving your submissions.

Kindest regards,

Yana Zlochistaya

Are you interested in research, but don’t know what resources are available or which professors to talk to? On Thursday, November 10th from 1-3pm in the CLA’s Glickman Center, students will be able to meet professors pursuing research in Liberal Arts and learn how to get involved in undergraduate research at UT! This year, Liberal Arts Council will be unveiling LAUNCH, the Liberal Arts Undergraduate Chapter for Research, an organization that promotes research in the College of Liberal Arts. We would like to encourage all Liberal Arts students to learn more about how to get involved with future LAUNCH events! Also, free tacos from Taco Shack will be provided during this event.

The event will begin with a keynote speech from Dean Musick, Liberal Arts Associate Dean for Student Affairs, who will speak about the importance of undergraduate research. We will then break into 20-minute small groups during which students will be allowed to discuss research directly with the professors. The food will be served at 12:45.

Professors attending are:

To Vote or Not to Vote? – a faculty debate between Brian Roberts and Bethany Albertson

To Vote or Not to Vote? – a faculty debate between Brian Roberts and Bethany Albertson

presented by the Texas Political Union

Monday, November 7, 2016

7:00-8:30 PM

WAG 214

Voting is the central feature of democracy. It’s how we choose our leaders. It’s how we set the national agenda. Some say it’s our civic duty. But does it really matter?

Join us on the eve of the 2016 election as Professor Brian Roberts and Professor Bethany Albertson debate whether or not you should turn out to the polls the next day. You’ll hear two very different views of this central feature of our system of government and even have a chance to join the conversation through questions or as a subsequent speaker.

Refreshments will be served.
