UTLA Fall 2021 Application

The UT in Los Angeles (UTLA) program will be holding two upcoming information sessions for students interested in participating during the Fall 2021 semester and beyond.

These information sessions will be general in nature and intended for anyone with questions about the program, online application, costs, internships, classes, etc. The UTLA Program is open to all UT majors  with at least 60 hours of academic credit. Students pursuing the Media and Entertainment Industries minor in Radio-Television-Film can satisfy up to nine hours (of the fifteen required for the minor) by participating in the program.

The deadline to APPLY for Fall 2021 is March 1, 2021.

Call for Submissions!

Past in Process is an undergraduate-run journal from The University of Texas at Austin. We will be accepting submissions starting December 1st in all areas and traditions of historical studies.

 We are committed to fostering diverse voices that are not always heard in historical studies. To achieve this ideal, we aim to create opportunities for undergraduate students across disciplines and areas to engage with history and to publish their research in different formats. We strongly encourage women and persons of color to submit and welcome submissions across different periods and regions. Our staff consists of a multicultural group of undergraduate students working across various disciplines. We are committed to fostering diverse voices that are not always heard in historical studies.

Please send your best essays to the Past in Process Submission Form to be considered. Deadlines for blog posts are rolling and all other submissions must be submitted by February 15th. Submissions guidelines are as follows:

Call for Applications !

The Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies is now offering a number of travel scholarships to Liberal Arts majors for study abroad in Latin America, both for summer 2021 and for academic year 2021-2022.  For summer 2021, we are offering 16 $2,500 travel scholarships.  Students must attend degree-granting institutions in Latin America this coming summer for a summer session and return with at least six hours of college credit.  For academic year 2021-2022, we will award six $5,000 travel scholarships for semester-long study abroad in Latin America.  Awardees must attend degree-granting institutions in Latin America and return with at least 12 hours of college credit.  These awards are merit-based.

Information on SCEE !

Students for Central and Eastern Europe (SCEE), UT Austin’s newest human rights advocacy organization, is currently accepting new members! At SCEE, we are dedicated to engaging students with social and political rights issues occuring in Central and Eastern Europe and supporting NGOs, grassroots movements, and student organizations that advocate for greater social and political rights in these regions. Using our voices and university resources in direct advocacy methods to empower our fellow global citizens in their fight against political suppression, racism, homophobia, sexism, and other forms of discrimination, we hope to forge deeper ties between future leaders of the United States and those of Central and Eastern Europe.”

UWC Undergraduate Writing Groups

The University Writing Center has some exciting news: For the first time, we’re running weekly writing groups for undergraduate students.

These groups are especially well suited for students who are engaged in long writing projects, like thesis projects and capstones. Each session involves a check-in, goal-setting, and silent sustained writing time.

Students can sign up here, and the groups start meeting next week. Please share with anyone who might appreciate having this sort of sustained support for their writing.

The Texas Orator Recruitment

The Texas Orator is a multi-partisan, peer-reviewed political publication at the University of Texas. We value thorough analysis in our articles and strive to protect the ideals of free speech and unhindered access to information on campus and nationwide. We seek to keep the student body informed of the implications of ever-changing political climates, both domestically and abroad, from a range of voices and perspectives. We have been indexed as scholarly literature by the UT Libraries and by UT Undergraduate Studies. We publish daily online during the semester on a range of topics, including culture, arts, philosophy, domestic affairs, and foreign affairs, and publish an annual journal as well.

We are currently accepting applications for staff writers, guest writers, copy editors, photojournalists, graphic designers, satirists, cartoonists, and more for the Spring 2021 semester!

2021 Capital of Texas Undergraduate Research Conference

The Capital of Texas Undergraduate Research Conference (CTURC) is an annual state-wide, interdisciplinary, student- led research conference held at UT Austin by UT Senate of College Councils, the Research Student Advisory Council, and the Texas Undergraduate Research Journal. This year we will be holding the conference virtually in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic. This will be a two-round virtual conference this semester. Students will record and submit a two-minute video (can be done individually or in teams of up to 4 people) summarizing their research along with an abstract. Videos will be scored by judges and have a chance to be presented during the live portion of the conference.

The video presentations will be shared on the CTURC website. Top scoring projects (in terms of presentation, communication, and impact) will be invited back on February 20, 2021 for a live round to determine overall winners, who will receive prizes.

We are extending the original submission deadline by a week – submissions will now be due on January 29th, 2021 at 11:59 PM, the application can be accessed here. This is an incredible opportunity for students interested in graduate or medical school to present their research in the current pandemic environment, and we sincerely hope that you will share this event with undergraduate students who are involved in research. Writing for Competitive Scholarships Workshop

The Office of Distinguished and Postgraduate Scholarships is hosting writing workshops during the spring 2021 semester.  The workshop is designed for students interested in applying for highly competitive fellowships and post-graduate programs, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, PD Soros, and others.  The virtual workshop will be held in three sessions over three consecutive weeks.

To enroll in the workshop, students must fill out this application by Friday, January 29, 2021. Space is limited. Students will be notified of their status in a workshop during the first week of February 2021.
