Mentoring Resources
UT launched a Grad Student mentoring course in Canvas in 2023 “Designed to help all UT graduate students build strong mentoring relationships and develop networks of mentors on campus. The course is the product of several years of work by the Graduate Student Mentoring Committee with support from the Graduate School, the Center for Teaching and Learning and Texas Career Engagement.”

Choosing a Faculty Advisor
This person must be on the LLILAS GSC. Students should:
Take their courses, read their work, approach them (do not be shy), talk to their students, find out what is happening in their ‘labs’/research clusters, try to work with them… Interact. Finalize by end of year 1:
- Are they thematically aligned?
- Do they have investment on the type of work I want to do?
- In what mode and how often should we meet?
- Will they have an investment in my progress?
