We are delighted to offer individual instrumental workshops for high school musicians led by Butler School of Music faculty and graduate students. Workshops are designed to help students grow in areas of fundamental musicianship, practice, and individual expertise on their instrument. A variety of topics will be explored with each workshop designed to facilitate growth and greater musicianship regardless of your current level!
Each workshop will vary in length and scope, so please read the detailed description for meeting frequency, duration, and cost.
Flute
Flute Fundamentals Workshop
$85 Early Bird registration ($100 Regular registration)
Instructor: Marianne Gedigian, Flute Professor
Meets for one hour per day Monday through Friday, 10:00 – 11:00 AM. Join Prof. Gedigian for a workshop that explores fundamentals of healthy physical approach to the flute, sound, articulation, facility on the instrument, and artistry.
Oboe & Bassoon
The Voice of the Double Reeds: Revealing the Artist Within
$210 Early Bird registration ($240 Regular registration)
Instructors: Kristin Wolfe Jensen, Bassoon Professor; Andrew Parker, Oboe Professor
Meets for three hours per day Monday through Friday, 9:00 – 11:00 AM and 12:30 – 1:30 PM. Students will have the opportunity to work with Professor Jensen and Professor Parker in master classes and workshops that will focus on developing a joyful, artistic, and effortless approach to music making. In addition to traditional master classes, students will explore dancing with the inner voice to build confidence and awareness of the mind, kinesthetic awareness in the body, and how those aspects intersect with the process of learning an instrument. Students will also explore engaging with their communities as artists/citizens, making reeds, and preparing for auditions and college applications. Several of the technique classes/master classes will involve all students playing. Students wishing to be a solo performer in a master class, should submit a brief recording by June 1 (see email registration for details).
