June 20-23, 2021
Tuition rates for summer 2021 will be available beginning December 1, 2020.
The High School Mariachi program is designed to provide high school students with expert instruction from professionals active in the field of mariachi performance. It is open to entering grades 10, 11 or 12. This session provides an excellent opportunity for young musicians to improve their individual performance skills. Instruction includes instrument-specific workshops, ensemble rehearsals, lectures on mariachi history, “jam sessions,” a field trip to the Tejano Monument at the Texas State Capitol, and performances. This camp is led by UT’s Director of Mariachi Ensembles Professor Mónica Fogelquist.
The camp culminates with a required student performance.
Students will have the opportunity to place into a “select” mariachi based on a brief audition on the day of arrival. Information about this audition, along with musical excerpt(s) to be performed, will be distributed by email to all registered participants. All students, regardless of whether or not they place in the select group, will receive instruction from all of our camp faculty.
For additional camp details, visit the High School Mariachi Camp Guide.
Parents and students registered for camp should also please review the 2021 Longhorn Music Camp Handbook (will be available from this page not later than December 1, 2020).
