This camp program will be offered virtually; UT Austin is not permitting in-person camps for the summer of 2021.
Until we can be together again in person, Longhorn Music Camp has restructured and focused on the essential (the best!) parts of our summer experience to bring the same fun and growth online! Working with some of the very best and most inspirational teachers along with exploring NEW topics such as electronic music, composition, and conducting, we are excited to connect our LMC campers with opportunities for growth, learning, and FUN this summer!
Our Middle/High School String Orchestra Camp is designed to accommodate musicians ranging from the most talented and proficient to the less experienced, with a minimum of one year of training on their chosen instrument. It is open to students entering grades 7, 8, 9, or 10. Outstanding string educators from around the state will provide an excellent opportunity for young musicians to improve their individual performance skills.
Camp will operate between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM Monday through Friday with a lunch break in the middle of the day.* Students will be required to have an internet-connected device (laptop, tablet, or Chromebook) with a camera and microphone. Our daily schedule will include the following:
Instrument Technique Classes
Work with specialists on your instrument to learn more about how to be the very best (insert your instrument name here)ist you can be! Through exploring topics such as best ways to practice and learning about advanced techniques on your instrument, these classes will help you grow as a musician, and help you head into the next school year prepared for success!
Special Guest Speakers
We’re inviting some of our greatest and most inspirational friends to join us to share some of their wisdom, experience, and insight with you. We’ll start announcing these guest speakers very soon, so watch this space for more information!
Ever wanted to learn how to be a conductor? How about how to play the fiddle? Have you ever wanted to write your own music, but didn’t know how? We’ll cover unique topics such as these (and more!) during our special topics series.
We know that we’re all missing playing together right now, so we’re going to work together to create a “virtual” orchestra experience that allows us to play together once more! Our teachers will guide you through learning your music and preparing to record for a virtual concert to take place at the end of the week!
We’ll end each day by having a little FUN together, and put our musical skills to the test with some friendly competition!
*As final schedule details are confirmed, it’s possible this time may adjust by 30 minutes earlier or later in the day.
