Interested in joining the MAGIC Study?

The MAGIC study intends to support families with infant feeding during the first 2 years of life. Our program offers tailored coaching for breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, complementary feeding and supports sensitive and responsive caregiver-child interactions.

Eligibility

  • Mothers with a baby 3-6 weeks old
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Father or partner can join too!

Incentives

You will be paid $20-105 by gift card for activities related to each study visit. If you complete all the study visits and activities, you will receive a total of $330 for the entire study. You will not receive payment if you did not complete study activities. We will provide gift cards as follows:

  • $20 for each virtual study visit completed up to 13 months.
  • $25 for questionnaires completed at the 13 month and 24 month study visits.
  • $20 for each completed infant DXA scan at 4 weeks, 13 months, and 24 months.
  • $20 for completed in person study visit at 4 weeks.
  • $40 for completed in person study visit at 13 months.
  • $60 for completed in person study visit at 24 months.

Visit 1-5 (virtual)

During the online visits we will:

  • Provide the Nutrition or Safety program
  • Record a feeding session
  • Record playtime
Visit 6 (in person)

During this visit we will complete the following:

  • Memory measurements: measures cognitive development
  • Strange situation measurement: measures emotional development
  • Peabody assessment: measures motor development
  • Veggie meter: measures skin carotenoids
  • Height and weight: measures body growth
Visit 7 (in person)
  • Heart rate and breathing measurements  
  • Problem solving activities
  • Games and play through peabody assessment
  • Height/weight, veggie meter and skin folds
