MAGIC is a research study focused on promoting optimal feeding for infants over the first year of life to promote children’s health and well-being.
Currently, there is not much research on how sensitive and responsive feeding in the first year of life to promote healthy development in young children.
Our goal is to help mothers and the other important caregivers in the baby’s life provide them with an nutritious diet and sensitive and responsive care in the first year so that babies can thrive emotionally, mentally and physically.
There is even less research on what to feed infants during first year of life and how early children’s early diet is related to weight changes and mental development. With MAGIC, we are using many methods, including detailed measures of body composition, to look at infant’s growth and body composition (fat and fat free mass) changes throughout the first year of life. That way, we will have a better understanding of which nutritious foods and lifestyle factors are associated with healthy growth patterns and improvements in mental and physical development.
The MAGIC study has the potential to help us better understand the outcomes for babies associated with experiencing sensitive and responsive care and a healthy diet during the early period of rapid growth and development.
