May is an opportunity to recognize and promote awareness about the importance of mental health across the lifespan. It is our opportunity to challenge harmful attitudes and negative perceptions of mental health within our culture and bring information to people in our families, workplaces, and communities that treatment works and help is available. Here are some of the ways that the TIEMH team is working to raise awareness and acceptance about the importance of mental health this month:
Texas Mental Health Creative Arts Contest
We are sharing the winners of the Texas Mental Health Creative Arts Contest through our website and social media to lift up the diverse voices of Texans discussing why mental health matters to them. We are also excited to join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission virtual reception to celebrate this year’s winners on May 23rd at 4:30 pm. You can join by registering here.
Children’s Mental Health Acceptance Day
On May 6th at 9:00 am, we will be at the south steps of the Texas Capitol with a couple hundred of our friends to recognize the important role that positive mental health has in healthy development for children and adolescents. There will be amazing speakers, music, family-friendly games, and a resource fair featuring organizations across Texas. Learn more about the event here.
Listen to the Spotify Playlist
We asked people to tell us the song that helps them express their emotions, gets them through tough times, or helps them recognize the joy in life. It’s a great list and we have been enjoying the eclectic music that moves us! Listen to the playlist here and come back as it continues to grown.
