NNCI is one of the pillars of the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), created in 2000 to coordinate nanoscale research of more than 20 federal agencies, including the National Science Foundation (NSF).
The National Science Foundation (NSF) supports 16 user facility sites, their affiliated partners, and a coordinating office as the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI). These sites provide academic researchers, companies, and government agencies with access to university user facilities with leading-edge fabrication and characterization tools, instrumentation, and expertise within all disciplines of nanoscale science, engineering, and technology.
