Brands & Products
Many cosmetic manufacturers use nanotechnology in their products. Cosmetics giants such as L’Oreal, Procter & Gamble, Uniliever, Henkel, and Kao Corp also hold nano-related patents.
According to the Nanotechnology Product Database (Raj et al., 2012), skincare has the most types of nanotechnology-related products (437) in the cosmetics product category, followed by personal care (184), hair care (161), and make-up (62).

Nanoparticles in Cosmetics
Sunscreens, for example, use mineral-based nanoparticles such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide as efficient ultraviolet filters. Other widely used nano-sized materials include liposomes, nano-emulsions, nano-capsules, and nano-crystals, just to name a few. They are used to help block ultraviolet rays, while safely delivering active ingredients to the skin (Statnano, 2021).
