The Legislative Committee is in charge of all legislation that comes through the Natural Sciences Council. Legislation is one of the primary ways through which the Natural Sciences Council is able to advocate for the CNS Student Body. We host roundtables in order to identify the issues that are currently being faced by students in the College of Natural Sciences. Committee members are also encouraged to explore and actively seek solutions for issues they hold a strong passion for within the College of Natural Sciences. Committee members then conduct research on the issues, meet with students, faculty, staff, and administration to identify potential solutions, write legislation expressing the student body’s support for those solutions, and then present that legislation to the Natural Sciences Council or the Senate of College Councils for a formal vote.
If their piece of legislation is passed, members of the Legislative Committee then work with the relevant parties to ensure the implementation of their solution. Overall, the Legislative Committee focuses on improving the existing infrastructure within the college and making sure that the policies and practices of CNS are the best fit for student needs.
