Catalyst

The Catalyst committee oversees Natural Sciences Council’s official publication, Catalyst. Produced by students, Catalyst is a web-based magazine that aims to highlight academic experiences and student life in the College of Natural Sciences. Our content is composed of guides, reflections, creative pieces, news, deep dives, and more! The committee is led by the Catalyst Chair, who also serves as the Editor-in-Chief.

Committee members serve as staff writers and editors, producing and collecting stories and articles about NSC and CNS. They also work to compile and update resources for students, such as the Unofficial FRI Guide, and the Pre-Medicine Guide.

The Catalyst committee ultimately aims to promote student voices and expression in CNS. Here, your perspective is treasured and amplified. The publication welcomes guest contributors from the CNS community and is passionate about helping you share your story. Catalyst also hosts a college-wide creative contest in the spring to recognize exceptional student writers and artists.

Are you interested in getting published in a diverse, student-run publication? Are you doing exciting things in the lab, volunteering, or just daily life? Is there a topic or topics that you’re passionate about? Are you part of an organization with a great mission and want to reach out to the CNS community? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please submit ideas, questions, and articles to nsc.catalyst.chair@gmail.com and let us publish your story!

“Our Hookstory” is a weekly column that looks to share brief yet powerful stories about life on the 40 acres as a Longhorn within the College of Natural Sciences. These stories can be happy, painful, thought-provoking, or anything under the sun. All we ask is that they be 100% true and authentic.

Comprehensive overview of each stream in the Freshman Research Initiative by interviewing students from each lab. Students give advice to students on strengths, weaknesses, lab skills, and more. Peruse through the streams and find your match through major suggestions from your peers.
