The population research journal, Demography, switched to an open access format published by Duke University Press late last year. They’ve recently released their first OA issue. Demography and Duke University Press have chosen a community supported business model that doesn’t depend on readers or authors to supply funding to maintain the journal. UT Libraries is an enthusiastic supporter of Demography and we are very excited about models like this precisely because they don’t cause access barriers and because they are sustainable long-term.
