We recently shared an update about UT Libraries OA memberships activities for 2021. We’d like to take a moment to highlight one of the open access publishing models that we support – MIT Press Direct to Open (D2O). D2O is a pilot program designed to shift the market for scholarly monographs from a model where every library needs to purchase a copy to get access, to a model where libraries fund a collection through participant fees that make the collection open to the whole world. Participant fees are based on library type, size, and collections budget. In addition to supporting the OA publication of a collection of monographs, participating libraries will receive access to an archive of previous MIT Press publications.
You can find out more about Direct to Open in the MIT Press announcement about the program launch. Libraries interested in supporting D2O should check out the supporter benefits and next steps on the MIT website.
