Our last highlight of Open Access Week 2022 is the University of Michigan Press: Fund to Mission. University of Michigan Press publishes about 170 new titles each year. Some areas of focus for the Press include English as a Second Language, classics, Asian studies, political science, and books on Michigan and the Great Lakes region. Fund to Mission is an open monograph publishing model from UM Press. Their goal is to convert at least 75% of UM Press monographs to open access by the end of 2023, without any author ever having to pay. By purchasing one of the UM Press ebook collections, UT receives perpetual access to frontlist titles (including those that aren’t yet open access) and term access to the backlist of over 2000 titles. Like the CEU Press option highlighted yesterday, this model is exciting because it creates an OA pathway for monographs in the humanities and social sciences that doesn’t place a financial burden on authors.
