As the federal government, private funding agencies, and academic publishers push for greater sharing of research outputs, the UT Libraries is positioned to help researchers understand the impacts of new policies and develop skills to facilitate open scholarship. The requirements outlined in the 2022 OSTP Memo on Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research will be implemented this year which will affect publications and data produced through research that is supported by federal grants. To help UT researchers prepare for upcoming policy changes and learn about current open scholarship best practices, the Libraries will be hosting two events in May which now have open registration:
Open Scholarship Crash Course
- Date: Tuesday, May 13th
- Time: 10am – 2pm
- Format: In person (PCL Scholars Lab)
- Details: The Open Scholarship Crash Course will provide an in-depth exploration of open scholarship practices and relevant resources that are available to UT researchers. We will be discussing all major components of open scholarship including data sharing, open source software, and open access publishing. This four hour session will be held in person to facilitate learning and help attending researchers make new connections that will foster the growth of our local open scholarship community on campus. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited, please register early.

Federal Policy Changes Impacting Research Sharing: What You Need to Know
- Date: Thursday, May 15th
- Time: 1 – 2pm
- Format: Virtual (Zoom)
- Details: Join us for a virtual informational session about federal funding agency policy changes going into effect in 2025 that may impact your research. We will cover the expanded sharing requirements for publications and data resulting from federally funded research, describe where researchers can find more information, and highlight the resources that are available at UT Austin to assist with compliance. We will discuss the commonalities and differences among individual research funding agency plans, and we’ll be able to answer questions you have about specific funders.
