The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy alumni office is pleased to partner with current Longhorn pharmacy students to engage in an outreach program in middle schools and high schools. Through this outreach, we hope to showcase our excellent program and provide young people with information about the pharmacy profession.
We are pairing alumni with current Pharm.D. students to speak to junior high and high school students about the pharmacy profession. Some activities have included alumni and students talking to students at Bowie High School in Austin for a lunch-hour chat, have participated in a Career Day function at Cedar Valley Middle School in Round Rock, and have presented to students in AP classes at Round Rock High School. There are several ways for alumni and students to reach out to younger colleagues and let them know about the important roles pharmacists play!
Why are alumni volunteers needed?
As an alum, you have received the best pharmacy education and training in the country. Who better to discuss the pharmacy profession than you?! Current Pharm.D. students will present their experiences as students. Together, you will provide an overview of the many opportunities, benefits and challenges of the pharmacy profession. Further, current Pharm.D. students appreciate opportunities to engage with practicing pharmacists.
All you need to do is indicate your interest in participating in an outreach activity. We’ll put you on a list and ask for your help when an opportunity arises. Even better, let us know if you know of a school, class, or youth group that may benefit from learning about the pharmacy profession. If you know of an opportunity, we’ll work with you to find students with whom you may co-present. Pretty easy!
